Tyson opens up about being married to a strong, gifted entrepreneur who was hurt early in life and swore no man would ever have authority over her, and how living in that tension pushed him to rethink everything he was taught growing up in a reformed church about headship and submission. What really cracked this open for him was watching a close relative come out as gender non-binary, which forced him to ask a question most men never actually sit with: what makes me a man in the first place?Tyson walks through his answer in a way I've genuinely never heard before, built around a simple thought experiment: in an emergency, who steps forward first to protect the people in the room? From there we dig into Genesis, the concept of "subduing" chaos into order, and how the fall didn't just curse Eve with pain in childbirth, it also twisted the way men lead, turning protection into control. We talk honestly about the abuses done in the name of headship, the mistranslation buried in Ephesians 5:22 that most people have never noticed, and why the call for a husband to love his wife gets skipped right over while "wives submit" gets weaponized.By the end of this conversation, we land somewhere I didn't expect: real leadership isn't about being served, it's about being willing to die first, to your ego, your comfort, your career, and your own unhealed wounds, so the people you love can be protected and can flourish. Tyson gets vulnerable about his own journey of taking responsibility for the ways he's fallen short, and we talk about how understanding this "bell curve" of good and evil can actually build compassion instead of contempt for people who see the world differently than we do. This one's provocative, and we want to hear where you land on it. Comment, share, and let us know what you agree or disagree with. We'll see you next time.Chapters:00:00 – Welcome04:44 – What Does It Mean to Be a Man?
