畫說漢字/圖解《說文解字》/1000個漢字的故事/東漢許慎原著猝（cù）“猝”字本义为狗突然冲出来追逐人，是一个会意字。其古文字形左边很像一只狗的形状，左边为“卒”，“卒”有急速的意思，同时还表示字音。整个字形是说狗突然冲出来追人。后来，“猝”引申为突然，出乎意料的，如“猝死”，意思是突然死去。“猝不及防”，是说事情发生的太突然，还来不及防备。（家里的狗突然冲出去追着人咬，真能把人吓得猝死。）
