#114 - “Bangers & Mashups” Round 4 | Les Paul Number One | Pitchfork Reviews: Rescores

from You Should Check It Out · host Wimbly Stoke

Greg (Not Pete) is back with three new clips for our 4th round of “Bangers & Mashups”! First up, the incredibly talented Bill McClintock carefully weaves together two disparate sounding songs, “I Can't Get Closer For That” is the result. DJ Cummerbund returns with “Another One’s Hot In Here” and we’re left with “Sein of Blue” by Zach Lapidus. Greg is also touring a lot the next couple months with the Red Not Chili Peppers, catch him if you get a chance!Jay gives us the story behind Les Paul’s ‘Number One’, the first Gibson Les Paul prototype that he approved himself. The guitar was put up for auction at Christie’s, estimated to sell between $100,000-$150,000. Les Paul, with help from his personal luthier Tom Doyle, spent the next 57 years modifying and tweaking the guitar, constantly seeking to improve its sound and resonance. Following the episode, the auction on this rare instrument ended, with the final price of $930,000. [Yahoo! News]Songs: Fleetwood Mac - “Need Your Love Tonight”Les Paul - “How High The Moon”Pitchfork, celebrating their 25th Anniversary, has decided the time for some introspection and self-awareness has arrived and they’ve rescored 19 reviews that they believe they’d gotten wrong. Nick felt he could both defend Pitchfork’s reputation while poking fun at each of the rescores. Jay feels this is another step towards vindicating his visceral dislike of the website & Greg (Not Pete) feels like we’re watching a bully discover they’re a bully. All points are valid and we have a fun chat about it along the way! :-)Song: BADBADNOTGOOD - “Signal from the Noise”
