Good morning, afternoon, good evening, listening to the All Talk Car podcast hosted by Pineronus. We're under Coven Street lockdown, so basically, Hillows at Home stuck what we've educated kids with homeschooling and getting kids out of hospital. Ross has run away to the farm, left the city area, so we've got Tom the Rading Reporter. Hello.
Everybody know, good friend of the show, Sam's all the darkest joining us. Hey guys. Hey guys, boys. Basically what we're going to talk about is how Coven is affected.
I mean, you guys, you're both in the car industry, but there's confusion out there as to what you can and can't do, what's essential, what's not essential. Tom, people look into this. We're going to look at different rules as to what you can and can't do, just to either create more confusion to all that, at least it is, or whether or not it's going to resolve some of the issues. Which rules do you want to say?
Try and make some, they don't do that. You're right, that's changed. I mean, at the time of recording, the construction industry has been shut down for two weeks. And then did you hear that it's apparently on Monday, they're going to reopen it?
No, no, no. I heard they're going to reopen, they're not going to reopen. But people in cars, the rules are changing too much. Yeah, because you couldn't have passengers in the car, but now you can.
Only for work purposes, and it's going to be, it does have to be a family member anymore. Well, let's look at the industries. So, Tom, I'm going to start with you. You're in the panel, meeting again.
Yes. You're shut open. We're closed. You're closed for the two weeks.
But I believe you're allowed to stay open. And then I read stuff and yesterday's topic was sent to me saying, the superlit smash repairs can't be over. And it said smash repairs. So you're doing the non-essential?
Okay, so last year you're open. Yeah, well, it was a last year. Yeah, yeah. With each year not.
But you've made that decision. I made this decision this time to close to two weeks, come back on the second of next month and then go. Because if you're going to be operating, you'll need to buy parts now with your supply of parts. Yes, they are supply parts, but they won't take a check.
You have to pay by credit card or EFT. And I'll leave the parts like clicking collect. So basically, there's bigs in the way. But the thing is, look, when the rules came out last Friday, it's Saturday, when they came out, it's Sunday, when I made my decision, you couldn't work.
Everything was shut down. Then as the next day, the Sunday came to light and rules started changing by Sunday morning, the shock would be open. You could have two people in the car for work purposes. The people in Fairfield and Canterbury apparently couldn't leave the area on Sunday night.
But then if I were working, as long as I got tested every third day, I could leave and go to work. All these, it's just too messy. So I made the choice, just close. It's the outside of those three areas.
The workshop, yes. A lot of your staff affected. Effect, yes. That's right.
Some leave in Canterbury, back-to-the-down area, some leave in Fairfield. And the last thing I want to do is get them into trouble because obviously it would get me into trouble and it's just not worth it. So, yeah, you just made a decision. They might stay at home.
Shut the up. Two weeks, the support there for workers, they could contact service of yourself whilst, but those are your self-wiles. I guess, in other states, you can contact your state government website to see what was available for lots of income as well as for businesses. So, yeah, so basically you made that decision and the way you go.
Sam, you're in a similar field that you do for an area. So basically own and operate a coach and you own and operate a car. Not a red, it's not a high car business. It's more an accident replacement vehicle business.
So, are you allowed to open? We are open under the auspices of being a high car company. Now, we were questioning whether we should open or not again because we weren't sure what the repairs were doing. But the vast majority of repairs are open and we've actually, we're actually finding that we're quite busy.
I think it's true to the fact last year. They're getting my work out for. Yeah, that's right. Last year, the same period, the repairs were trading.
However, there were not many cars on the road. So, there was less accidents. We're now, as you can, from what I've seen, a lot of the areas that I drive through have a lot of vehicles on the road still. So, there is accidents.
A lot of my repairs are busier than they normally own other times. So, it's a really strange time. So, the way your business works is that it's like an Avis, it's basically pedal beaters or vehicle repairs will contact you for a replacement vehicle for any cars. So, if your vehicle got in, rather than a car accident and you need it for work, you supply them to the vehicle for them to get around during the period of their vehicles off the road with the repair up.
That's correct. So, essentially, we basically get them back on the road. So, they're not unconvinced. Which is, I'm sure what the majority of people would want.
I'm lucky enough to have that sort of accident. It is a strange time. I've got a theory for that thing. If you look at the weather two weeks ago, it was raining.
So, all that work, small accidents, like you know, in the rain and all that. So, on the time the repairs were gone through, all the maintenance will be panel shot, it's about last week. So, it's a week or two lags, you know what I mean? And now they're trying it to now.
So, but I think I'm not sure what Santa Provers is wrong or not. Next week or the week, Arthur? It may come. That should be, it should be quite tight.
It's funny though, there's another interesting point. So, with panel biters, if you're not a badger panel bit, or a badger repair with, with affiliated with a company, the blowout times to get your car assessed have increased exponentially over this time. Now, finally enough, the last couple of jobs that we've gotten, I've had accidents that were three months ago and I've only been approved now. That's the other thing I've said to the other industry body that's important is insurance business.
So, I'm assuming the insurance companies are working from home, they've got phone centers and things like that. But you still need a successor to come around and approve jobs. I think the assessors would have come out. A lot of insurance companies like NRO and May, Suncorp, they're not coming out, they're doing online, they're doing the right thing.
I happen to take a phone call today because I went into work quickly to do some paperwork and I've got a car assessor. I asked the assessor and they're going, no, we're still coming out inside. So, we're in lockdown and they're still, they're doing essential. Yeah, again, but are they confused as well?
Yeah, but what can they do online? Like if I'm not? Yeah, but are they confused? Because everyone seems to be confused about what's going on.
What are you going to open up? Because they keep on check instead of just leaving it shut down, shut down, they're like, oh, they need to do this, you can do that. Like, sorry, I don't understand why you're so loud. All right.
And this is where there's confusion because especially with the construction industry being a total shutdown, they're trying to half shut things down but work from home, they're giving you mixed messages. But last time I think they wasn't it like the builders, the main people like the big companies had to shut down and the small ones operate. That seems to be funny about that. No, no, no, no.
And why understand all the construction? No, no, last time. Yeah, last time all the construction went on is normal. They weren't affected.
Yeah. And then you read articles where the construction game, the trades have moved to country towns because you can do construction work. But that's a good thing. You couldn't get construction out there.
I've got one of the girls. But then you're promoting the movement of vehicles and thinking over the same as the greater city area. So no, I'll talk about the trades are going to big fruit picking or something. Oh, okay.
Don't need that. See other stuff. Yeah. I know.
And this is the other thing where we've got too much information. Like, you know, Tom, you came in, you came and saw me the other day and you went through the guidelines and restrictions. And sometimes it's too much information. And no one knows what's the right sort or something.
I would say service and stuff like that. You're going to your government website. It sort of spells it out there or your industry body. But even then, in industry, I am.
But there are a couple of days behind. And we had a webinar this morning. And even then it's still up to the government to approve any changes in the housing industry and things like that. So there's a lot of misinformation out there.
A lot of people reading Facebook and WhatsApp and the rest of it. And who's right? Who's wrong? I don't know.
But we're just trying to work out what areas can, cannot work and sort of give out some kind of information. Like you look at the car industry, especially secondhand cars have gone up 30% value in the last 12 months. It's because it's been waiting on new cars. So the supply chain comes down where, and then the other thing I was going to suggest is other getting emails, BMW showrooms have shut down services open.
Services open, all the payouts are closed down. But they're doing click and collect. So if you had a car ready to be ordered, you could go pick up your car by appointment with a car that's restrictions. They're not supposed to leave your house.
Hey, it's essential for you to pick up your car. It's essential for it to be repaired. Let me consider for you to pick it up. I guess it would be.
And that's just, yeah, I don't know. It's difficult. I don't know. And then what if you leave an industry up?
So if you're in charge and said, okay, construction, construction, handle beating, not urgent, then you've got the higher car industry. Yeah, bring it. Throw in the car. In the end.
We haven't brought the car. You're talking about covalent, obviously, moves from car to car or can move from person to person. Yep. Surely the car, having your car coming, if you're driving or part of something that's essential, right now, has to be essentially cleaned or stay on top.
We offer a covalent sanitation service, say, car wash. And you'd think that if any time you need it, it'd be now. Yeah, but we've been closed. Yeah.
So the biggest belief is that where this is going. It's a nice substance. That isn't it, Sam? Yeah, it's okay.
So generally, it's a big industry. You want to have industry. But where do you draw the line? Look, all my phones are developed for my motor and I've got fake calls.
And the best is, oh, why aren't you wagging? Or, you know, there's COVID out there, right? Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. And that's from offices, right?
But that's because it's got time now. I think everyone wants what they want when they work. And when it gets taken away from them, it's sort of difficult. Moving after COVID, do you think there'll be changes in the way you do your business?
I mean, the car wash. I'm sure there will be. We've already taken steps into getting some new sanitation equipment to be able to, as soon as you drop off your car, the car will be sanitized so our drivers are safe so they can move the car around. And for the customers, where's that?
Yeah, and then at the end of it, it gets sanitized again. So the customer then goes out with a sanitized car. But we've had to put these in place to get our workers safe and our clients safe. So the plastic seat car, I remember we could take care of the services for the plastic for oil.
No, no, no, no, we just sprayed it. So we get paid to treat these cars every job from insurance companies. We charge insurance companies to sanitize their car. Yeah.
And they give it a different time. Look, as much as, yes, I do. I hate insurance companies, as much as I hate them. They do the right thing.
Like they're paying us to sanitize a car. Like they do, they do the right thing. It's just a, like, I don't know how to say, a barrel of apples and half a rotten, but it affects everyone then. Yeah.
You know what I mean? So they treat it, they paint it off the same brush or whatever. They, you know what I mean? They say, but that's what happens.
They're trying to do the right thing. They're paying us for everything. To keep their customer happy or safe. Yeah.
And that was a good to use again. It was something that was, you know, they started that straight away. As soon as COVID came out or whatever they sanitized, they paid for sanitizing. Yes.
If your vehicle's safe, my car's smashed and I bring it to a penalty. There's a question in there to have the vehicle sanitize. And ensure this company allow that in your quotes or in your particular. Yeah, that's what I ran up to.
Same as some of his sanitizer, whatever it is. The equipment. You know what I mean? They're equipment.
We can pay for it. So... And is that an end of cost? Is that an end of cost of the car wash?
It is an end of cost of the car wash. But we've decided to wear it just to help people. Because we know people are in trouble at the moment in terms of financially. So we touched on it, but we don't charge the idea.
Thanks, man. Thanks, man. That's nice. It makes me feel really warm and classy and nice.
I think cars wash a lot more often than it. We did. Funny enough. Last year, funny enough.
As soon as we offered sanitation, we thought, we actually charged for it initially. And we thought, well, we'll be taken up or not. And everyone was happy to pay it straight away. And then we just agreed on it.
We offered it for nothing. We offered it for nothing. But they were happy to pay it. Because it just may be getting that sort of sense of security.
You know, I've done everything I can to make sure that my car is over. And then you were something over in the restaurants. Yeah, it's fine. The funny thing is you don't see it.
You're paying for something. You don't see it. Because it's being done. So Sam, if I just bring my car, it seems it was three to three.
But if I get the chemicals from you out of the pay for it, is that right? You can do that. You can charge us for granted bottles if you want. You can do all sorts of things we can work out.
Oh, thank you. Thank you. I'm glad the media, you just try to work out. I'm trying to get something up.
I want that warm fuzzy feeling. You want to walk off? You'll fit needs. I don't want that pain from behind.
Bicep chips be covered. You don't get that warm fuzzy feeling all the time. Well, John, I mean, anything there, John, moving forward, you think, I'm not trying to get political. But which part?
In the car game, there's a world change now. The way we interact. Man, I'm not an expert at all this crap. I'm not nowhere near it.
I'm like, you see America, you see England for, it's the football game. It looks like there's nothing down there. Well, I'm not saying they're living with it. Yeah, not trying to get political.
But my wife coming in when we watched Wimbledon, how the future king of England is there without a mind. Like if he's there, it's safe. No, no, no, no. Yeah, if it was over the car wasch to me.
But it's true, but they're doing normal things. It's not going away. They're learning to live about it. That's it.
People are still buying, people are starting to win everything. Yeah, but the numbers have changed dramatically. Yeah. And that's more than likely to do with the vaccination.
And in the end, it is going to be a brave new world. We're just going to enter the pace we're going. I think the good thing is that we've got overseas to look at as a leading to what we do to make better decisions, have to make less mistakes. I'm not going to have someone here who could have given us the way things to get a guy their names.
Yeah, she works for me. And she could have told you everything. That's not my side. I actually think, can we get a run?
That's not my side. I'm going to have to change that to more talk. But effectively, yeah, I mean there'll be things in place. I'm guessing, like, cleanliness has been at the forefront.
People are washing hands. I mean, that's something we should have been doing in the past. Anyway, everyone's happy to change. Yeah, it's now with more of it.
It's at the front, but it's just the way it is. Well, gentlemen, thank you for coming in. We're back. So we're trying to work through this lockdown and get some more episodes out.
So thank you for your support. I know it's been quite the last couple of days, but we're back on. But our driving has been limited. So now I know what our Victorian friends went through.
And they were sort of laughing at us for a couple of weeks but they're in lockdown as well. So now I've got to let everyone just be safe and good on Netflix. And it could be worse. It could be the 80s when I had internet.
It could have been locked out playing the board. I don't know what the game will not be. Definitely. It's not going to be the other day.
It should look at me funny. She knows what it is. She should have been funny. We could have played chess.
I would have done it to some of us that dies. But it seems like we're away at your businesses or...? Yeah, I'd like to. If it's okay, we're going back open.
We've got clock-cobble-check-bank-sence-ports-clock on the back of the functioning. We'd love to welcome you. And for any, if you ever have an accident, any accidents, replacement vehicles you require, it's your car awaits. You can check us out on the web.
Your website? Or do I ask on 1-300-4-1-0-3-9? And the sanitising team? Could we bring it up?
Did I get for free? For anyone that comes and quotes Tom's name, we'll do it for free. Hey, you can say a lot of people now coming in. How are we on the same time?
You can have a stack just hit your tow truck driver, bring it in Tom's order of bears. Yeah, that's it. Down at Pico's. Not till after the second.
After the second. Because we're close with David. Are the brakes going to be a good break? Yeah, you're going to take any time off.
Feels funny. I gave him the wardrobe in the morning. Look for clothes. Nothing on myself.
I mean, days. Because I always wear the shirt, the same things. Never reminds me of the old wogs that you see out the front of their garden. And they're still wearing the same clothes they used to wear at work.
But they're for it's way too long. They can't. They can't break that habit. It's going to be late.
It's going to be late. Yeah. Yeah, it's just... You have to step on socks and the boots and I realise no.
I can wear a cinch. So to culture, you're almost sitting retired. Yeah, it's just funny. Well, I got told I got a lot of grey hairs today.
Did you tell your wife that you were shutting out? You're still getting a little bit wet. Now she thinks I'm working. So now I'll be home in 830.
Maybe in 9, I'm not sure. And tomorrow I'll be a little bit... A little bit later. It's good, but...
Oh, I'm glad she doesn't listen to the show. I know she should. But you're doing this, man. There's a lot of people in here.
I'll finish now. Right now, as with you, let us down. Let us go back. We've got a surprise next episode.
I won't reveal it. What's happening? But we're moving in the future with technology. You know, find surprises with guests.
We've got expanding our wings. Now that's for next episode. So, thank you for listening and bye for now. Bye.
Bye-bye.
