115. The Public Persecution of Jason Arday: Proximity to Power & Anti-Blackness

Professor Jason Arday was once celebrated as the youngest Black professor at the University of Cambridge. However, within weeks allegations of plagiarism expanded into extraordinary scrutiny of his career, achievements, personal history, autism and whether he belonged in one of Britain’s most prestigious institutions at all.His death at just 41 has left behind questions that reach far beyond one academic or one controversy. What does Jason Arday’s story tell us about anti-Blackness, Black hypervisibility and the pressure placed on Black people who enter spaces close to power?
