116: Your Gym Is Open, Now What? With Special Guest Rick Mayo

from Gym Business Coach Podcast · host Tim Lyons and Randy Angsten

In this episode, Tim and Randy will be joined by a return special guest, Rick Mayo. Rick is the owner of Alloy Personal Training Solutions and has been a great friend and mentor to Tim. He will join Tim and Randy to talk about the fact that he has recently reopened his fitness business and share what the experience has been like. He’s based in the state of Georgia where the governor announced phase one for the reopening of specific businesses, including gyms. Rick has several gyms in the state and one of them reopened successfully while the biggest one, where he’s located, was the second one to reopen. Before opening their doors to the public, he procured the services of an industrial cleaning company to do a COVID-19 treatment in the entire gym so they could be sure that it was free from the virus. He made a very interesting observation about their clientele and how they reacted to their reopening. Some were very skeptical about it and felt that the gym would put people’s lives at risk, while others held onto the opinion that COVID-19 has been a conspiracy from the government, so they were very okay with going back to the gym. He also interestingly had issues with getting his team members back to work because most of them were not comfortable with it. Stay tuned as Rick talks about the different challenges he’s been having with reopening his gyms and what he’s learning so you can know how you will need to prepare for the reopening of businesses in your state.Key Takeaways:The re-opening journey for Rick and his gym business (03:43)Getting a mixed bag of positive reactions from their clients (06:43)More hesitation than expected from team members about getting back to work (10:52)Considering a new staff recruitment strategy based on the extra talent available in the market (19:44)The percentage of members who are coming back and the hardest thing Rick is having to deal with (23:31)Accepting and embracing the harsh reality of business to beat the competition (28:43)Post-COVID gym marketing strategies and the value proposition right now (31:24)How fear is affecting people’s ability to reopen their businesses (41:06)Respecting that people have their own views on keeping their doors closed (49:10)How Tim and Randy have been servicing and collecting revenues (52:04)Additional Resources:www.RickMayo.comwww.CLACourse.comwww.ProFitGPS.netMarketing Talk with Fitness Professionals Facebook Grouphttps://PFMarketingSolutions.com/Datawww.PFMarketingSolutions.com/Automationwww.ProfitGPS.comwww.PFMarketingSolutions.com/Call--If you are interested in a free audit for your gym, visit http://bit.ly/free_gym_audit--You can find out more about Tim and the strategies covered in this episode by checking out our website.--Would you rather watch the video version instead?Head over to our YouTube channel to watch this episode by going here--If you don’t already have my book, get your copy FREE here.--Connect with Tim:Schedule A CallFacebookInstagramLinkedInConnect with Randy:FacebookInstagram--Subscribe to the podcast on Apple, Spotify, Google, Stitcher, YouTube or anywhere else you listen to your podcasts. If you haven't already, please rate and review the podcast on Apple Podcasts
