117. Let Go of Control
from The LDS Mission Podcast · host Jennie Dildine - The LDS Mission Coach
Let go of control in order to fully embrace your mission experience. Your feelings are all created by thoughts and thoughts are all things you can control. However, being worried about control can become overwhelming and self-destructive. Control is a mental construct that our brain creates to make us feel safe in the world. While it is important to feel safe, it is also beneficial to let go of control when it serves us. Rather than trying to control our thoughts and emotions, we should simply try to become aware of them. Start to witness them, accept them, and truly be with them. The need to be in control is not a helpful mindset. Firstly, the idea of control suggests that there are "bad" thoughts and feelings when in reality, all thoughts and feelings are valid. Secondly, trying to control our thoughts and feelings often intensifies the situation, as seen in experiences with anxiety. Finally, controlling our thoughts and feelings can prevent us from fully experiencing and processing our mission journey. Let go of the need for control and instead embrace the natural ebb and flow of your thoughts and emotions during your mission experience. By doing so, you can fully engage with and learn from your mission journey.
