Okay we're on three three two one one one three Excuse me Good evening listening to the all talk our podcast Full house tonight Roscoe let us join us from the farm how I made oh very well very well Also joining in in our studio is a little more stuff on Greaming you can talk here Because we've got a photographer. We've got a graphic designer. We got a bike guy. We've got a car guy.
We've got a skater guy We've got a guy. We've got a girl guy. Oh my god We got a box from ZM garage, right how are you? Hey, I'm good man.
I'm almost a couple of wines in so you guys do this late nine o'clock at night That's um, that's pretty late. This is early for people like the past year It's a good one today. No, thanks for thanks for the invite. I like I like your name guys, you know the podcast name I think it's a very smart.
Yeah It was funny. I was looking through some old a couple months ago. I was looking at some old some old v-dub golf I don't know what I was doing My son was my son's getting to the ages for my oldest was 14 now And he's really into cars and he's just asking a few things and I said I'm gonna have an R36 Volkswagen station And it had Lamborghini wheels on it. He's like what are you talking about?
That's just ridiculous And then I was looking through photos and I got to the warehouse me now. Do you know that was fantastic? Epic I reckon it was one of the best nights and we color coordinated the cars Feet how will if you've ever get a chance speed hunters did an article on it? If you can google and find it it was it was absolutely it was a really epic night We had you know, we had catered we had it was great.
It was back in the day when I think I was catered too So you put my baby. I suppose you put my baby guine wheels on your station wagon We already put a label in the engine in their station wagon Yeah, man. Look look look Ross I think you're ahead of the times and some way with the wagons because wagons have become so fucking cool these days like There's a there's a real wagon culture and with really young kids too Like young kids are starting to dig wagons, you know, and like, you know, I'm sure back in the day in the 60s They were shagging wagons or whatever But you know the wagons with the airbags and the lambo wheels or whatever and I kind of think it's like that that that was um That was pretty early early days. Yeah, it was it was only on I mean we we um I always felt left out with you guys because you all had golfs and I remember the first time I met AP and another Mutant friend of ours he had this turbo chart and he still got it.
He's just his passion, right? And I remember meeting him and he's like you know, you've got to join up as Justin and he's got his website We got checked out back when forums were forums. They weren't you know bullshit on facebook. I suppose it's a Facebook.
Yeah, but it was full of genuine It was really for genuine people. It was moderated, you know, the moderator could get in there and kick people's arse and you know get things quite real But back there that was 2009 How fast your passion for cars go? I mean probably like everybody else that you've ever had on the show started really young where I was calling out different car Manufacturers as a kid off the balcony, you know, like my mom would tell me that when I was a kid I would call out that's a BMW or that's a Mercedes or whatever, but it was really my dad He had this thing where he would just change cars every year He would just every year buy a new car and they'd get faster and faster too And he drove so nutty that I'm I used to put a pen on the paper Like I'd have a little pad with me in the back seat and I put the pen to the paper and he cornered so fast that I would have an artwork by the time we got to the That's just like Yeah, exactly exactly and you know, I remember at some point in city roundabouts came in right? You remember roundabouts weren't around So the roundabouts came in and he would come into the corner so hot to do a big right turn and people would go forward and he'd go Right, you know, so what kind of cars just like will you do you?
It was your own slap or getting sort of swap around? No, no, no, no because my family makes Hondas in Indonesia, right? So it was always Honda we had to he was he married my to my family that ran Honda, so he wanted like Mercedes bands It's really in your blood man. So it's in your blood.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, so for me It's like I had Hondas too, but then at some point I suppose I'm the black sheep So I bought a Toyota and the whole family was like oh, yeah, you know, yeah But um, but yeah, he always had Hondas, but he never liked them. I remember as a kid used to say Oh, just not enough power not fast enough, you know, so that's before that No, he didn't have that he had the the four year old steering Honda prelude remember that the first four years in What is that? Shaped that bubble shaped Honda civic the one before that so the eg yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah Oh Remember it was the one that was modeled on the original Sierra first. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah Get one of those from Japan.
I think you can buy one now the expoon will build you one or something one of the Japanese racing companies will do I'm sorry dude. That's the thing like I think the whole concept of making a grocery getter But the DNA of it has a it's got a flat chassis, you know, so you get some good handling in there If you modify it, right? And the guys who run JDM yard, they've been my friends since sorry the 90s They were there pretty much the instigators of bringing the whole JDM culture out to Sydney at least they won time attack three years in a Road in an eg city. Yeah, yeah, they want time attack world time attack the fastest lap on Eastern Creek with an eg civic Three years in a row it goes to show like they beat all the Skylines.
They beat all the supers. They beat all the M3's everything It's pretty impressive. Justin you grew up in Indonesia. No, no, I was born here and grew up here in Sydney You said that was born in Indonesia.
No, no, no my family my mom's family in Indonesia Manufactured Honda cars and sell Honda cars. Yeah, yeah, so when I was younger They were used to send me like Alpine head units because of the hundreds Yeah, the top of the line Honda's like the Honda legions and stuff used to have Alpine head units in them So they would send me that and they would send me Honda Formula 1 because back then it was um, Honda was winning the Formula 1 You know, we had Nigel Nigel mantle and stuff and I was watching it I was drawing it as a kid always like Honda big Honda logo on a yellow and blue Nigel mantle cars and stuff and I was a real Honda boy because they were saying me like cool stickers and shit and cool cool. Honey gee If you only had kept it all Justin, I still have it all. I don't throw anything out man.
I'm like, I don't throw anything out Hey, you like that ultimate collector, right? That's why you still have that you still have the GTI anymore the golf time that we're but do you still have that infamous Listen to your yeah, yeah, I still got it. I've still got it, but uh, it's how she's traveling Bit or else not. Yeah, bit of rust name.
It's like it's it's one of those life choices that I made to live by the beach You know, I should have thought it somewhere else I was thinking about selling it for a little bit but like my closest friends were like mate That's an investment and it's going up in price even if it's rusting. It's going up You know, it's it's worth a hundred to a hundred fifty thousand dollars now So but you know honestly, that's probably what I spent on it in terms of modifications and stuff So it's nice to know that I'll get my money back. Yeah, you know, I don't think that's Too much with us Justin's nice to have someone on the show that's not you know, like Pete with his warranty and I love a little bit of modification, but I love you know anything I think Freake out they bought a multi-van which was These guys borrow my multivan and they had 20s on it that was slam those eyes And they brought it back a dark I can't do it. They need to be comfortable There was nothing comfortable about it.
I'm trying to camera with a go-kart. I counted it was about three dollars. That was free weight That we ran over beautiful so don't don't don't do my car a lot. It's in the blood right?
I mean I passed that down the next generation like my two kids love their car So they're into this but it's funny Justin we talk about cars that people are into now You think the kids are into the electric cars like my son and his mates at Ford And they're into old Australian muscle cars like Taranas and do you can you guys can you guys believe like in our lifetime that holding went down? No I'm so sad about it because I never really liked V8 supercars until I met people that became really good friends that came from overseas So they came from overseas and moved to Sydney and they were like fuck you guys have motorsport on the television every week I'm like shit actually that's pretty unreal. Hey like I think like what are they racing taxis for? Every Sunday was like I started to get into it and like then you know with my R32 I started to do the research and Jim Richards used to drive the R32 the windfield cup R32 that created V8 supercars Right they are They called it the monster from Japan right so after that no like fuck this we can't have the arize cars losing So they got a bit of group A racing and they created V8 supercars Justin that GDR was Australian developed with Fred Gibson They created a japan to show me some of our set it up really developed GDR This is motorsport flew the Australian engineers out to show them how to do it See I fucking love that like I just think that that was a time where there was less I mean Japanese have got less that you go to begin with and that whole like the whole idea of collaborating with people to make your product better It probably really happens these days like the Japanese are doing it like you look at the 8-6 right?
It's got Subaru engine in a Toyota car It's super the new super So the Japanese have got something where they'll put their pride aside a little bit to make a product better and work with people to make it better Whereas other manufacturers and other cultures seem to have this competitive you know fuck our cars are the best and that's why they go down You know like Saab Saab Scott and God like Saab Saab Saab have always been trying to sell their cars based on a jet fighter. It's not a fucking jet fighter It's fucking clean the front The front That's what I was going to do with that General Man is really fucking No, but seriously that the Monaro when they re-released the Monaro the two-door Monaro like I You know I really love that car and I've always kind of secretly wanted one My favorite car was the Honda Integra type R. Yeah Yeah, except one yeah No, no these days they're rare but um, you know the DC to the DC 5 is a classic example of where Tesla's at right now It's kind of like the DC to when you when you turn the key the starter motor is so strong It goes bap bap bap bang and your dashes fucking vibrating and shit DC 5 you turn it on and and you don't know if the cars On and up. Yeah, so the amount of times in a DC 5 where I've cranked the engine and it was actually on already Oh really horrible horrible.
I'm either of those cars. Oh, yeah, I've owned all the legends man. I've owned all the chat Yeah, I love that I love that so I had a few MX 5s before the S2000 But the S2000 is a different piece altogether. It's MX 5 is MX 5 teaches you how to go sideways You come off the racetrack going sideways and you giggling you're giggling your laughing It's like oh that also areas but the S2000 you come off and you shoot your pants Yeah, it's just it's just takes it takes more to ring it out of an S2000 because the revs are like I had the one that goes up to 11,000 right so it's like you know, it's high revs It's like a motorbike engine you need commitment to get up that high in the revs So if you if you said wrong you're in trouble We're all so yeah And Well, I just think that they were the best handling front wheel drive cars at the time at all and everyone loves a black sheep Right like we all know that we will drive cars a superior We all know that but not everyone can drive a real car a real drive car that fast not everyone can do that It takes a lot of skill so so what so you're gonna understand where Honda's coming from in my opinion It's like okay.
You're talking about guys who like cars, but they don't really know how to drive a real drive So he's an accessible car It doesn't cost that much you take it to the racetrack and you can actually do PBs after PBs after PBs because it's not biting you in the Us whereas you watch those guys with big multi big powered mustangs and corvettes they're crashing in a straight line when they're leaving The car meets you know, they don't even know what they're doing So yeah That concept of like the way I look at it when I was hanging out with the boys back in the late 90s Whatever we were working for ourselves at that time So we'd go to Wakefield on a given win we'd sit there on Tuesday Wednesday whatever day we'd go a want to go to Wakefield Yeah, let's go and we all went and the time to beat was one ten We were like the dream was one ten if we can do a one ten around Wakefield Oh, that's the dream and we never got to do it now That's the thing at the time. No one knew the track no one had YouTube You know, we didn't have YouTube to watch what the line was we had to learn it ourselves, you know Yeah, like these days everyone's in Honda's everyone's doing sub one-time. So everyone's doing sub one minute now Kids in front we'll drive civics, but we weren't crashing into walls because you get under steers Everyone goes oh fuck right we'll drive some this year, but man when you're on the limit you want to see that hard It's still pretty scary, but it's not as scary as spinning the fuck out in a real drive You know, so I think a lot of people pay hon is out But a lot of the guys that pay hon is out. They don't know how to drive a real drive either Yeah Especially with the internet these days it's like oh, you know real drives are better than front wheel drives I'm like yeah, that's absolutely true absolutely true But if you if you want to reach 80% of your potential then probably be easier Yeah, you know those guys that love the twisties right the people who go out to you know old pack or whatever Yeah, man I'd rather be in a front wheel drive because I can get to like 70 80% of my abilities on a twisty road If I wasn't a real drive, I'd probably be doing like more 50 60% because I don't want to crash into a tree and die, you know, so so I get it I think the culture is interesting is like we're all into cars and we understand that we don't look at cars as transport We don't look at cars is like oh, let's go from A to B and you know like we all have this car ego You know we all have an ego whether it's holding versus forwards or you know fuck that I would rather my die hats over at their beginning any day or whatever everyone's got these egos when it comes to how much We have a passion for cars, but you know, it's a ultimate ultimately It's I don't know it's one of those things where I think for my entire career I've tried to unite people in that we all love cars full stop, right?
And it's been really difficult for me to do that because there's so much adversity amongst us car guys The old days Justin there was so many blowups in the early days on that forum there was there was you know People were meeting you know off the forum so they could you know people would mediate and have a chair I'm sure you did it plenty of times to try and keep playing times like yeah, but but the end of the day We all loved our cars. We all over. Yeah, do you think that's your question? Do you think I mean growing up for me, you know, I grew up around the corner from you there in the river But the casting back in the day with the cabin boys and zombie road and all those guys They sort of they sort of really you know obviously two years into those guys, you know Jumped into order so long do you think that that is very different to what the kids have been access to feel I mean it feels like everyone that's got a love for modifying cars these days or whereas back in the day It was a bit of a minority that did or it was just we did just want that many cars and people to never exit to that kind of I mean I think it's like this whole Instagram and Facebook thing is really ruined it for the people who are truly passionate about it Because we we did it to please ourselves more than to please others I that's what I believe I believe that like we we modified our cars not primarily to show off like maybe AP did it to show off I'm just Yeah Still wants to have the fastest golf world Which is fucking cool, but you know, yeah, you don't want to have the fastest car and not be able to show it off That's that's a big cool but I'm Everything was fast The Golden Age of young young guys getting together and girls with their cars is no way to go anymore Like if you the other day needs to be up the rocks, I put no stopping signs Regulation start to get in the way.
I think and the least I make it things easy. It's always been there man Like I've run in a month meet yeah We I've run in a month meet come it since the since the year 2000 and you know the most we've ever had is like three to five thousand cars one night But it it's just it's just impossible man Like people people come up to you and say what the fuck you're letting all these shit boxes in you should make it like a super show We're only the hot cars and I'm like, you don't get it. We're all car guys You know, I love it that someone can park up their five thousand dollar be the car next to a three hundred thousand dollar modified car I love that, you know, you know The concept of like maybe that guy with the be the car will have that three hundred thousand dollar modified car one day Yeah, that's the thing and sometimes it was going I remember like even in the early 90s There you guys turning up and you'd be like what is this piece of shit? Right?
Yeah, this is when you go down to the brick yards at home which well before it was a lengthy pack I didn't know I wish it was back there man. I wouldn't let me cross Enzac parade They let me now. They let me now. They let me now.
They're pretty easy go to Carta straight and you would race all night It didn't matter you'd leave you come back the cops would turn up you'd leave you'd come back or you'd run out to whether Or so you can come back again I'm going to shoot box to the dish box and then you blow the doors off back there like a very angry way or a walk into Yeah, that was a bit more before my time. Yeah, I'm sure my action But seriously man like nowadays it's all European cars like you you buy any European car like a golf or whatever You put a stage three on it and you're making power that like I remember it took all day to tune my GT on a dyno It took all day like you don't just plug in a little fucking laptop and boom you're done 30 kilowatts Like it took us all day to get 30 kilowatts, man. It was right. It was not right.
It was not right And I was never right I turned the icon on the car would stall, you know, it's like something, you know And that's the thing it's like the the arts gone, you know, like you these days It's like it's easier for you to get a gold and modify that and the cops won't even look at you You have an old Integra and and you go past and if a cop can hear it They know to pull it over that because I have friends that it comes to they're like they get taught if you can hear it pull it over That's number one. Well, you've just debunked the myth for me because I'll be traveling up and down from Sydney And I'm on my eight four in five weeks Was your car loud? Your car's loud, right? Yeah, yeah, I've got a Expired in competition with a full Acra, but I got rid of it.
It's deleted the cats. So just gone straight through right So that's what they get taught man. They get they get taught that they get taught that Huh And actually someone said to me that I have any drive that thing. It's so loud.
You're not 20 I got I do it's like when anyone thinks I love it I love it. I'm not actually coming to a highway patrol car leave those guys snap crack That's the ego right like like we love it when we hear a car that sounds fucking good, but the general the general I mean That's the thing when you love something so much you're a fucking minority man. That's the way life is right like chances are the majority when you Fucking smashing it past their street. They're like That's the thing like I think being in a minority is a choice in life, but it's awesome to find like-minded people right like it's a rarely It's like I'd rather I'd rather do that.
It reminds me of high school all over again Like you don't want to you don't want to you don't want to shelf what you're into just a fit in I mean to this I want to find somebody else that's into this right? So so I think our culture is a lot like that, you know, like it always has fascinated me I just think I get I can see it from another person's perspective that we're just a bunch of wankers And if we don't if we're not controlled oh my god, man We we would be you know, we would be hooning on the streets. We'd be racing like we used to be in the 80s Right wherever like he's in road was a drag strip. So it's one I beach or whatever.
Yeah, of course It's getting hard it's getting harder and harder for us and that's why I wouldn't mind talking about electric cars with you guys because I'm Question Play 30 kilos click of a finger right are you worried about the future or are you excited about the future with the the car's electric cars? We can't perform its cars. They already are performance cars like they can't corner for shit But they're good drag cars, right? And that's the thing.
I'm a guy that I love corners, right? I just think drag racing. I'm gonna hate I don't know how many listeners you're using. Yeah, I don't know They're gonna hate me because I think drag racing is nowhere near You don't need anywhere near as many skills for drag racing as you do with our racing corners I just think I'm not a conspiracy theorist But there's a conspiracy going on here because we had the Prius right we had the Prius they spent billions of dollars developing this technology to try To save the environment and we had the right right and decades and then and then overnight mate overnight I'm not talking about decades overnight This alien comes comes into our lives and creates Tesla and overnight the cars are faster than a GTR or Lamborghini or a Porsche or Ferrari Whether they're faster overnight and for these that improved their cars have set the bar for eight years ago with the model I don't buy it though.
Like I don't understand like why do we have like wireless keyboards and mouses and the batteries run out? When you've got this guy who can create a car that's faster than a Lamborghini I don't understand like there's a conspiracy going on here like I don't get it went from Prius to Tesla Yeah, but not only that Justin it's happened so you say so fast I don't get it. It's like I understand the internet happening for us in our lifetime But I don't understand the Tesla thing like it's just I'm not anti I'm not anti Tesla He's Tesla the who who said we have guests on the mini disc that's part paid in the way for digital music that led way to the CD Or is not gonna be the one that is the ultimate because they really have they're not I don't think they're the best made cars. I don't think they can't like I just don't they're not refined They're not do you do you think you love fuel though?
Do you think you're like the smell of fuel and like do you think? I could don't give you wrong I was looking at me only having told the boys this year But I'm very close to picking up an i3 the mw just a grand cruiser I'm happy to have them I got a range of But I think they as just think they're not a very well-built car I don't think you can buy the heritage that you know the mw and Porsche and Lamborghini But they'll do it too, but they'll do it Like Tesla will sell engine kits their manufacturers and stuff They'll do the Japanese thing and call it and all of my mates in America are putting Tesla engines in old 240 z Datsons and putting them in the portions of the What do you want? Because that's car culture right like true modifying culture is all about Shoving an engine from another car in another car like that's what we love doing here It's funny I've got my kids have got this buggy up here We've got this on-fry buggy which the engine is only 150cc so I've managed to do that Oh yeah and I thought about you man That sounds deadly already man It's not that fast with 120 kilos in it but I managed in my seven year old daughter the drive It's okay but I managed to get my hands today on a ruckus motor from a gy6 ruckus motor Oh gy6 yeah okay yeah so I'm gonna slap that in there and see how we go but you can buy a turbo kit for it So to make you just go back with what you said electric cars when we drive them I can we comparing it to the Tesla 3 that were in the performance The Porsche felt like the Mate was made by a car company that knows how to put cars together That's what I said Where Tesla's technology is all in the shares in the drivetrain or the battery power Yeah but why is it so fast though? That's the thing like I don't understand why it needs to be so fast Like if Elon was smart you just release these luxurious sort of like passenger cars that take you from A to B But just make them slow like ordinary canary or something like do you have to make it fast?
Do you think he's just trying to be that everything to everyone? We're gonna make it fast electric I think it's a total is an egomaniac is a bit thick You know he's kind of like fuck I'm gonna make it fast like fuck it. Let's make it faster You know No one's but he hasn't got a moon first or did he? No not 100 times like these the six cells for you.
Yeah yeah yeah And if he was smart if he was really smart he would open up his doors like the Japanese manufacturers do And work with Ferrari and Porsche and Lamborghini and stuff and work with them on creating something even faster than what those guys are making You know but but but what he doesn't understand either is that like there's something about fuel that Car guys like he doesn't understand there's something about sound like we all hated it when everyone went silent like we Everyone hated it just and if there is a difference we're masked is more in the power supply game Where if you look at what rematts has done in Croatia we portion bolt wagon that's a performance guy So he's not into the the must be the fuel you're right it's fuel it's it's the even just I know if I'm like I probably wouldn't put the electric one There's nothing bad about a Tesla like that's a problem like there's something like if you're really into cars You're a bit of a bad boy You know like we watch juice and hazard and smoking and abandon and you know we watch these car guys that were like Way before fast and furious in that crap you know like we car guys are bad boys You know like there's something about there's something about doing a burnout man Like there's just like if you've never done one before I'm sorry for you know Not right I'm not right I'd be like this ever Yeah You can't drift on a steering wheel that looks like something out of an airplane you know Like But I think it's not right It's not right We're wearing the Tesla frame we're wearing the the Tay-Kang right What this car type of no soul when you drive up It's not throwing a fridge on wheels Yeah, and that's that's totally fine like that's totally fine for people who are out there Right, they're not even they're not people in America with Tesla's aren't even driving themselves They're like yeah, that's a destination Yeah, so that's totally cool like I get that he's that's his vision But I don't understand why they've got to be fast. That's the main thing It's like just keep doing what you're doing create these like pedestrian vehicles that can deliver pizzas without a driver and stuff That's fucking awesome do it Tesla and dominoes join forces and deliver pizzas all over the world, right? But like don't fucking make your car doesn't yeah But don't fucking make your car faster than my GTR man That's fucking offensive like seriously Now you just explained it Justin you need a fast car to never repeat somebody I get it now So you can't fit a passenger in it then it's just the pizza Little pizza rather than cooks on the way there guys go it guys take your Tesla's to the drag strip to go It's all over YouTube They go out and they will run the same time just over and over until you know it's all right We'll go back right go faster the more you run it it'll just drop off You go slow. Yeah They go there and it's like oh my god big though Like a non-11 turbo what but dude like the only way you can make your car go faster is you have to take white outfit Yeah, that's what I do That's a good one because I'm a battery zinger to go faster No, they do that they do that so on YouTube There's a bunch of Tesla guys that have stripped out their Teslas and they go to drag strip with drag radials And they're smashing everyone and I'm just like man like if the future generation if you've got a Ross You got a 15 year old kid and he goes oh fuck yeah I can't wait to get a Tesla so I can fucking tear another hole in the I was leaving city performance.
I just had the exhaust on I had the down pipes done I'd had the stage to it was the car was ready to go and Alessio turns me and goes now I think it does sub three. It's pretty quick. It's built well of solid whatever There was a guy there and he had a Tesla. What's the Tesla the sports thing the Ford all thing anyway?
He goes mate. It made me fast. He was paying a good car He goes it made me fast but I could beat you in any race. He said I really fucking race you to know the buddy.
Let's go But that's the thing like I think if you've gotten to a point where you're saying that you can It's like I put computer games with the boys and there are some games that you can just pay money Like real money to beat somebody and like the Tesla's pay to win man A Tesla's pay to win you know like you get you get an old car to beat something more modern like a Ferrari or Lamborghini That takes hard work you take it you know you take a 60s 70s 80s 90s car And you make it faster than a lot of modern cars that people spend 500 thousand plus on that's car culture But you go and buy Tesla and you say I can beat your because my because you know the magazine says that my zero a hundred times faster than yours Then it's pay to win. It's pay to win. It's not it's not car culture. It's not car culture Now that's the saying we said all the time you know to build my board and that's really come through now hasn't it?
So I learned a lot of our computer games Justin my wife bought me for my birthday a couple weeks ago at a pizza I haven't had a play station since the pizza right okay I'm assuming I must have been annoying to shoot out of it to buy me a play station Anyway, I'll get on this thing the thing is online to start with my this is amazing You can actually my kids got Xbox whatever so first thing I'm online and then you can pay to win you're right I think buying shit like a money now Ten thousand bucks. I can't imagine anyone. This is my where's when I was a kid's like hundred six dollars dead six dollars Just you know, I can't do it but you know as well as it and you never got that six dollars You had to get good as well. That's a thing, you know, I think like that's right And you know that's the thing like I think um, you know if we're going going back a few Questions and like just talking about the current state of like kids today with cars and stuff that social media is so fucked up that like You know, I should I should girls were living So I know that if you post a photo of a bum You're gonna get like a butt shot's gonna get three or four or five times more likes than a shot that you actually like of a person completely in frame But it's the same thing with cars, you know, it's like it's sad that like if you don't get the airbags If you don't slam it if you don't do something that is against the grain then you're not gonna get the likes and the followers But I mean are you doing it because you like it or you doing it because you want that the addiction of having a whole lot of people Like in your car, you know, so I think You're right true car loves the car Ross what we had in that era in that sort of like that scene back then was like no one's no no two cars were a like man Everyone had everyone had their own thing and and like no one laughed at each other like someone someone tried a Modification that looked a bit silly.
No one said are you that looks like and stupid take it off? No, you know, like everyone had a something a little bit different you could line up 20 goals and they'd all have something different about them Oh, mate, and you've got a googler if the listeners want to Google the photos the photos I mean, you actually if Justin if you get a chance go back and have a look at the photos from that from that It was a good night. Yeah, the amount of cars with it Did you take those photos Justin was I just I was I made a mind yeah Just that way house any and look it looked really really good for us together on speed hunters like speed hunters is the biggest Car blog in the world so at that time for us to get it on speed hunters was it just it just felt so good because We do it for the love right like that's the thing and for an American blog to pick us up in like it's justification Man, like I was you yeah, yeah, yeah, we do good things, you know, we do good things And I think you know you get caught up sometimes with all the egos and stuff and you get to it's like the horse with the blinders Right like sometimes you get too focused in on on on on the everyday But like when you take a step back like you realize like we were on a good thing, you know When we could leave fortress bladders could you fall in the other countries where this cut the car culture was a strong Japan I've been to Japan over 30 times or so and I love the culture there and they get defects and all that She's just like we do but when there's like all this along on once a year Oh, man, that everywhere you look there's modified cars and even the cops come out in the RX aids and the cops And the GTR yeah, they all got modified cars too, so they all come out on the streets, you know That's the thing about your Japanese modifications if I understand why people don't get it because it's fucking weird, you know There's like it's fucking strange With massive boy, I love that shit exhaust You look at like us guys today like all we do is wear a t-shirt and jeans and some sneakers like it's fucking boring man Like when I was growing up there were goths and they were metal heads and we all fucking guys wearing fucking nail polish and guys wearing High heels and stockings and shit like fuck people were walking on the city like that now It's like everyone looks the fucking same, you know D-shirt and bridge Yeah, so dude even with the crazy when we were running Zangaraj people were buying stupid like forget what it's called But it's like spray can and spray can paint that wasn't paint and it was like pasty dip and they were pasty dipping They're wheels like bright orange and they were doing stick a bombing their cars I'm like you know what at least they're doing it like any any when I was in the cars I used to look at the guy that put the the bonnet vents on the the charade and he had like flames painted down the side I used to think what a fucking idiot But then I stopped myself and go you know what he probably works at Mac is and it's probably like spending a little bit of his money every week On his charade and I'm like you gotta start somewhere, you know I'm getting at man like I just think like I've always had that mentality of like you'll have to start somewhere and fuck Are you into cars? I'm into cars like let's fucking talk cars You know like that's the thing like I love what you guys doing right because we're not on the same We're never gonna be the same we're never gonna like the same things But we can always expect that we're car guys right and it's like there's something about it There's something about like yeah sure now maybe there's no manual anymore And you just like it's getting easier and but everything's getting easier like everything's getting easier Because Pete myself and a little I'm sorry different when it comes to cars like of course And that's probably what makes your podcast great right yeah exactly yeah, and we have a few discussions sometimes Don't do any of you drive do any of you drive manual still I bought a recent purchase manuals coffee in the sea I 11 and it came with G22 race seats I can fit in it, but after three minutes my my arse or hips killing this and we're looking for turbos seats to replace the race seats Good shit though man.
That's a good purchase. That's an awesome car Congratulations congratulations. You gotta think me to that Pete. Thank you I know because we missed out on the process brother We've seen that car the cars finished gone.
Yeah, I'm gonna get the show I saw the photos my brother couldn't believe the photos My brother all had a nine nine six C4s and he sold to his car collector in Victoria But he wasn't a car collector. He was buying a car with charity money because his wife had died of cancer I think it was he was buying a car that smacked through the Simpson desert and absolutely destroyed it Just kill it the photos a whole area You know that's the thing about like Ross when we were in that VW go for the DSG was tempting You know like I bought a DSG because I'm like oh what's this all about you know and the saddest thing is like I spent all that money on the car to sound good and shit and then you know I was living in a city at the time So you'd see mates on the side of the road when you're just driving through through sorry heels or whatever and I'm like I want to clutch in and I want to Just say so my mates Fuckin' DSG. I'm like fucking putting it in neutral putting it back into drive and stuff. That's fucking stupid man Shit and then you go to the racetrack sometimes you want to you want to sometimes you want to downshift a bit to initiate a drift You can't do it on DSG It's just fucking stupid like one of the best things about having a clutch is clutching in and this is what my fucking car sounds like You know it's like yeah, and it's just that's why I feel sorry for the new gen and the kids 60-70 KJ drop it to nail it Is your green is that green thing that you've got manual?
No, that's all right, but that the blue ones man, but the green one you're the green one Oh the class shit you just know it and it loves the rez up Yeah, well it does drop a gear right they drop drops a couple years right drops into second Yeah, I've got a new project guys. I've been living on the farm for too long I've been getting into this as a culture just you may or may not have heard of it They called me out of cuts you see no No, no basically taken a mix by they stripped the shit out of it. They take all the body panels off They cut the rear tire the re so spare tithing out so they shorten the car Yeah, they're sure even more and there's a roll cage that literally bolts it bolts into all the like you've got a Yeah pretty much on MX-5 you can't register them here in Australia, but some people have been doing like People have been doing track work on them. I thought you know what with no guards on there I'm sure you could get like a two six five thirty five fourteen like mud tire on it and sure as hell you can so I'm trying So you don't even need to give you enough grandparents.
I'm gonna build an offer about it There's a guy in them in more that's got a smash MX-5. I'm trying to get my hands on it I'm gonna get my hands on a car trailer and I want to bring it up here and strip it down and buy one of those Okay, it seems not cheap anymore either. They've gone up in price the old MX-5. Oh, these are all smashed You want to give me yours or strip it down.
I was looking at changing it, but no, I'll take it I'll give you a thousand bucks for it. Oh, yeah, she gets her a little too long stuff Okay, yeah people laugh about MX-5 But like I get it just like they're here dressed the car or whatever and I totally understand it But after I had one the first time like it's it's the closest thing to something that was created before your era Yeah, like when you're driving an MX-5 you feel how mechanical it is. There's no comfort There's no every time you shift the gear and it's just so direct and I think it's the perfect car to learn how to drive sideways in because It's got such a short wheelbase. That's why I'm shocked that you're talking about making it even shorter because it's got such a short wheelbase that like I understand guys who drift in four four four doors cars because you've got a long wheelbase So you got a lot of time to think about counterstair Whereas if you've got a little MX-5 and it's you go on at speed and the tail comes out You need to go full-count as the as quickly as you can turn that steering wheel and No, you're Well, please just a new old One from the truck They're fantastic once once you learn how to drive an MX-5 you'll be able to drive any rear wheel drive car anything And that's the thing like it's a gateway.
It's like a gateway drug, right? It's a marijuana to get a little bit of it. It is and it's like so many people will skip it because they're too You know old guys are too manly for an MX-5, you know But man like that's why the 86 is so good to you know like I went out to Wakefield And a guy had a brand new BRZ he let me drive it at the end of the session end of the day like a four five o'clock He gave me the keys he said it Justin, you know, you want to do a couple of laps in the BRZ. I'm like fuck Yeah, you know fuck I haven't driven one on the track before so so we hopped the Input the helmets on and stuff I'm like do have you been drifting this car all day?
I got on the trackers like that's what I wanted to see what I could do You know, he's like oh, yeah, man I'll be drifting it, you know fuck it's fucking awesome I fucking love my car and shit like that and like the tires were called first first lap on the first lap the car just fucking spun out And I'm like full counter steering and I did his nasty drift and he the passenger the guy who owned the car he was slapping his knee going And I'm like also yeah, haven't been He's been doing these little But holy shit that car on the Prius tires like comes on like rubbish tires But it the idea is to show off what the chassis can do, you know and like the guy the guy who was running wafer that day There's always somewhat some guy at the the straight that like if you're doing drifts and stuff You'll get black flag you come back in you know and so people like what the fuck who the fuck is that fuck without there? You know and someone just that's just in that car and he like oh, that's all right But like seriously that that that car like I would love to own one like they're cheap now right like 10 15 K for something And I just take that to the track it won't break. No, it won't break. You don't need to modify it It just keep the shitty time for rice wheels in the back.
That was the plan right? They put the six down cranny can do it for but that's the problem. That's a problem Ross like people buying eight six They put coilovers on it like what stuff that we used to do right? That's it you buy it you buy it to you out of eight six 15 K You put some semi-slakes on it and some coilovers you're not gonna have fun in it It's not gonna teach you anything.
It's gonna be too sticky and it's gonna be like sometimes you need to learn And you know like I find a mine that was really a really good motor kind of driver He purposely bought second-hand tires off taxis because they were fucking bald as fuck and he put them on and And he would drive in the wet all the time. He would he would drift every corner like one night. We got so drunk in Utah Right? We got so drunk I had to fucking drive him home that night and I couldn't even take off a green light But bro like seriously having a car with ball tires in the wet It's like it'll teach you how to feather the throttle and to shit that you've never you've never fucking learned before and like people people never get there Like people don't get there now, you know Good Thank you for coming on Like this gladdest you know talk through a computer It's looking it's the way of the world, but we're gonna catch up again here in front of the show and take the ice cream There's a lot more that we still get through but guys I'm sorry that I didn't get to hear all of your stories tonight You know so we definitely have to do it again and even if you come on my podcast There are a lot of guys that would I think would learn a thing or two from you guys So I would love to have you on my podcast and I've got a big community of mostly Japanese car guys But you know hey, we're all car guys.
Yeah, it's cool So just zingaraj man just google it and Justin Fox if you google me, I'm sure you'll find some nasty images and Yeah, yeah, so um, you know, I'm not so much into plugging myself But I'm guys if we can do this again and I can get your show out there some more to more listeners I think you guys obviously love what you're doing and a few what is a hundred and hundred and something episodes in You know that's commitment man. That's what that's more than what the young kids have these days So I'm more than happy to support that so well It's been great. It's been great catching up. I've said to these guys for the last 12 months I'm gonna get Dustin on them since so many times and down I think this will be the first of many Justin.
I think it's good. Yeah, so this is the first of many and down We'll bring a boil and we'll catch up and we'll do burnouts. What's it? Virtual burnouts man.
We gotta do it. We you know You guys can watch There's a reason why we cover his face I'm allegedly doing burnouts Oh my god, everyone stay safe. All right. So, thank you for listening.
I was getting a lot of kazin from the paddocks. Stay healthy You take my little We'll be hiding that's all right as reviewers all that you did Citizen email if they might guys are just about to thank you forward to answer Get to that.
