118. Ve'etchanan - The mitzvah to believe in only one God (mitzva 417)

from 2-Minute Minchat Chinuch · host Shai Goldman

Ve'etchanan 5782. A deeper explanation of the opinion of the tosafot, based on a shiur I heard from מו״ר הרב משה ליכטנשטיין שליט״א: the difference between the Jews and אומות העולם in terms of the severity of שיתוף is in their relationship to הקב״ה; the Jewish people are described as כלה קרואה, married to הקב״ה. Therefore any שיתוף is זנות and destroys the relationship entirely. However, שאר אומות העולם have a relationship that is more similar to עבד/אדון, which leaves more space for an עבד to claim for himself other (albeit false) אדונים.
