12/19/23 - Fr. John Brancich, FSSP

from Ask A Priest Live · host The Station of the Cross

Fr. John Brancich, FSSP is the pastor of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Nashua, New Hampshire. He was ordained into the Priestly Fraternity of Saint Peter in 2004.     In Today's Show: It is still debated when the ensoulment of a baby in the womb happens. I am confused because I thought the Church was clear in recent times that a baby receives an immortal soul at conception. Isn't this inferred by the dogma of the Immaculate conception, that Our Lady was preserved from the stain of original sin from the moment of her conception? For those in hospitals, what happens if the Chaplain is living in a state of mortal sin? What did Jesus call Mary? Do we know? What is a good night time prayer for a family to pray with little children? Did the story of Sodom and Gomorrah actually happen or is it symbolism? What are ember days and how are they observed? The Church taught historically that Catholics couldn't attend non-Catholic weddings, funerals, etc. I heard that now there are exceptions where, in certain cases, you can attend. Was there a drastic change in Church teaching? Where did the Italian Feast of the Seven Fishes come from (on Christmas Eve)? I went to get enrolled into the Brown Scapular on Sunday but was in the state of mortal sin. Does my enrollment count? Do I have to start over? Would Father please tell us about how a priest gets his chalice? How did he get his? Also, does each priest collect his own vestments?   Visit the show page at thestationofthecross.com/askapriest to listen live, check out the weekly lineup, listen to podcasts of past episodes, watch live video, find show resources, sign up for our mailing list of upcoming shows, and submit your question for Father!
