#12. A Father-Daughter Journey: From Hard-Nosed to Heartfelt

I am back with another interview with my Dad, Pritam S. Lamba! Today we talk about parenting, and specifically about when kids become your friends. My dad shares how he used ‘discipline’ and ‘direction’ when my brothers and I were growing up and when he saw us rebelling and then made a decision to shift his parenting style. He also shares that he believes parents must change themselves at some point, to have what he calls ‘dialogue’ vs ‘dictating’. He admits that he was a ‘hard-nosed’ dad, all out of love and protection from all the bad influences in the world. It opened up a two way communication for us. It wasn’t smooth sailing at all, but looking back, our reflection is quite enlightening. Some things came up that I didn’t even know he had thought and did when I was a teenager. My favourite parts are when we laughed together and when I almost started crying from something he said. I hope you take one thing away from this to support you and your family.
