Comme lui, ils ont été entre 1,5 et 2 millions d'appelés en Algérie entre 1954 et 1962, aux côtés des militaires de carrière pour ce que l'on appelait alors "la pacification" mais qui était en fait une guerre de décolonisation. Stanislas Hutin retrace son parcours en Algérie dans "Journal de Bord Algérie novembre 1955 - mars 1956" aux éditions GRHI Toulouse avec une préface de l'historien Pierre Vidal-Naquet.
