12 Australian Comics at Libraries with Queenie Chan and Karen Dwarte
from ALIA Graphic Podcast
This is an ALIA Graphic special episode dedicated to libraries, librarians and Australian creators. Our guests are Karen Dwarte, the Library Collections Coordinator for Inner West Sydney Libraries and Queenie Chan, an Australian Manga and comics creator. The original recording was published on July 30, 2020 and can be found on our YouTube Page. The discussion takes us through what the situation is in regards to getting Australian comics and graphic novels at libraries. Comic Con-versation Festival is discussed at length as an example of a comics festival that championed Australian titles and creators with great success and grew from one library to seventeen participating libraries across Sydney. The second half of our discussion centres what librarians look for when adding comics and graphic novels and how to get your comics to added to library suppliers. Queenie Chan collaborating with Comic Con-versation published CCV Buy Lists of Australian titles the last few years but now she's gone one step further and created an online Australian comics and graphihc novels for libraries database. This is a great initiative that we believe will be very helpful for both libraries and creators and we're very happy to be involved. Thanks for listening to ALIA Graphic Podcast.
