Se ubican en el territorio del Resguardo parte oriental del Vaupés, en el noroeste de la Amazonía colombiana. Se localizan en los ríos Colorado, Papuyurí, Yapú, Inambú, Macucú y Tiquié. En la antigüedad el poder recaía sobre el chamán o curaca, quien no sólo regía los destinos espirituales de la etnia, sino que también tomaba todo tipo de decisiones de trascendencia. Su forma de organización política está sustentada en el cabildo, cuyos miembros son elegidos por un periodo de un año.
