#12 MarcianosRock Radio Show - with Clearlight ("Symphony") - Complete album session

I would like to start these "complete albums" sessions with a 70s project called Clearlight. In 1975, they released an album called “Symphony”. It had only two long suites on each side of the old vinyl, simply named as “First Movement” and “Second Movement”. Following the success of Mike Oldfield in 1973 with “Tubular Bells”, the Virgin label was really keen to release this kind of things, with a similar symphonic structure, but it wasn’t until 1975 that it took really place. Clearlight is the personal project of French pianist Cyrille Verdeaux, who was a outstanding member of the avant-garde French scene in the beginning of the 70s. He firstly recorded both tracks on piano but were later overdubbed with other instruments and musicians. It was quite natural that some of these musicians were also part of groups such as Lard Free, Babylone and Gong. Steve Hillage played here as well. I’m talking of the “First Movement”, which is more progressive and cosmic rock oriented. It was produced by Gong member Tim Blake. “Second movement” has a more romantic atmosphere, and it means of course a great blending exercise of space rock and free jazz, which proved the high academical level of Cyrille Verdeaux himself.
