It was the debate between Joe Biden and Donald Trump that was the beginning of the end of the president's 2024 bid. And now the former president's campaign is saying it won't commit to any future debates until the Democratic Party formally chooses a nominee, which delegates aim to do by August 7th. Vice President Kamala Harris said yesterday she's ready.
I'm ready to debate Donald Trump. I have agreed to the previously agreed upon September 10th debate. He agreed to that. Previously now appears he's back cuddling.
Trump said on Tuesday he's down to debate, but only agreed to one so far with President Joe Biden. But I want to debate her and she'll be no different because they have the same policies. I think debating's important for a presidential race. I really do.
Is Real's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is sitting down with former President Donald Trump today. It's the first time the pair have come face to face since Trump was in the White House and sources say Netanyahu requested the meeting. They've had a rocky relationship since Trump left office with the former president criticizing how Netanyahu has handled the war in Gaza. Their meeting comes after Netanyahu met with President Biden and Vice President Harris yesterday and faced pressure from both Democrats to agree to a ceasefire and hostage release deal with Hamas.
U.S. officials say an agreement is close and it's up to Israel to get it over the finish line. And their optimism was shared by some of the families of the hostages being held in Gaza who met with Biden and Netanyahu yesterday. We got absolute commitment from the Biden administration and from Prime Minister Netanyahu that they understand the urgency of this moment now to waste no time and to complete this deal as it currently stands.
There's been a large-scale attack on the French train network. On the very day the country is preparing to welcome thousands of visitors for the Olympic Games opening ceremony. Sañez-Melissa Bell is in one of the busiest train stations in Paris. Travel chaos and misery for hundreds of thousands were being told to delay their travel until Monday.
Of course this was one of the big fears for the organizers of Paris 2024 that there would be these kinds of instructions. The French rail authorities in the SNCF are saying that there's been a series of targeted sabotage acts around the country at about 4 a.m. Authorities say cables meant to keep train drivers safe or set on fire and taken apart, but they don't know who was behind it. Meanwhile, ticket holders who will make it to the opening ceremony have been told to bring their umbrellas and dress accordingly as rainy weather is expected in Paris.
President Biden's commending law enforcement this morning for the arrests of two alleged leaders of the Cinola cartel. Ismael Zambada-Garcia, aka El Mayo, and Joaquin Guzman-Lopez. He's the son of the drug cartel's former boss El Chabo, who's serving a life sentence in a U.S. prison.
Sañez-Polo-Sandaval has more on how they were caught and what charges they face. Hey, Chris, so I listened to Mexican officials this morning who confirmed that the private plane with these two suspected cartel leaders on board took off from Mexico on Thursday morning and that it was heading to an airstrip just outside of El Paso, Texas. And of course we now know that that's where both Mayo and Guzman-Lopez were arrested. When U.S.
law enforcement officials actually been briefed on the investigation tell CNN that the operations in Dab Mayo had inside help from one of Chabo's own sons. This is an incredibly significant victory for U.S. authorities who had been offering a $15 million bounty for Mayo's capture. Both Mayo and Guzman-Lopez still in federal custody.
They face multiple indictments in the U.S. accused of funding in massive amounts of drugs, including fentanyl. Up next, another indication that inflation is heading in the right direction. The Federal Reserve's preferred inflation gauge eased slightly in June, from 2.6 to 2.5 percent, just like economists had expected.
That means U.S. inflation may be inching toward the Fed's 2 percent target. And it's a good indicator for a likely rate cut that markets think will happen in September. Friday's numbers were the clincher on a solid second quarter for the U.S.
