from Therapy Tea: Demystifying the Mental Health Profession

This week Jazmin learned that there are so many factors constantly impacting her ideal work schedule. Karen and Jazmin go into some detail about their experiences trying - and failing! - to find that one sweet spot for client session caseload and schedule that can just be settled on and stuck with. They talk about different factors that have impacted both of their journeys in grappling with the mythical ideal of a *flexible* schedule. And then we’re sharing our interview with Julie Moss! She’s a Licensed Professional Counselor in Texas and holds a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology with a Minor in Psychology from Louisiana State University and a Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Loyola University in New Orleans.Julie currently works as a Clinical Account Executive with New Choices Treatment Center in San Antonio, Texas and she has a small private practice on the side. With Julie we explore the versatility of our counseling skills and developing an ability to really trust your gut, both around accepting new clients and going for completely different opportunities. Julie’s story is one that helps exemplify the variety of ways that private practice can look and the other career directions that one can go in the mental health world. Resources mentioned: Stopping the Noise in Your Head: the New Way to Overcome Anxiety and Worry by Dr. Reid WilsonReid Wilson’s Website: https://anxieties.com/ Hack Your Health: The Secrets of Your Gut (Netflix documentary)The Mind, Explained (Netflix documentary series)Man’s Search for Meaning by Viktor FranklNew Choices Treatment Centers: https://newchoicestc.com/ Julie’s profile: https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/therapists/julie-moss-austin-tx/760127 Thank you for listening!
