#121 - Martijn Rutgers, hoe een hedonistische student een bevlogen voorganger werd (S01)

Martijn Rutgers: 'Mijn romantische beeld van de kerk heb ik bij het grofvuil gezet’ In Onderweg is voorganger Martijn Rutgers te gast. Niemand had in zijn jonge jaren durven voorspellen dat hij voorganger zou worden. Als rechtenstudent in Leiden hield hij er een nogal ruige levensstijl op na. Tot die ene avond dat hij met drie bier in zijn handen stond en met zichzelf werd geconfronteerd. Hij kwam tot geloof, werd voorganger in megakerk Crossroads en is vandaag de dag werkzaam in een kleinere multiculturele kerk in Amsterdam Nieuw-West die OASE heet. Het leven van een voorganger gaat niet over rozen. ‘Mijn romantische beeld van de kerk heb ik bij het grofvuil gezet’ vertelt Martijn. Hij is enorm enthousiast over zijn gemeente in Amsterdam West. Het is een diverse club van uitéénlopende culturen en van arme en rijkere mensen. Toch is er ook veel leed. Martijn heeft ontdekt dat het delen van zijn eigen leed ook belangrijk is. Hij zegt: ‘De Afgelopen 3,5 jaar heb ik mijn eigen gebrokenheid leren kennen.’ Ook is hij meer ruimte in zijn agenda gaan maken voor wandelen: ‘Voor mij is stilte steeds belangrijker geworden’. Elsbeth Gruteke is een uur lang met Martijn Rutgers in gesprek over zijn werk, zijn geloof en zijn leven.
