Dr. Eben Alexander, a neurosurgeon, had a profound near-death experience (NDE) in 2008 when he fell into a coma due to a severe case of bacterial meningitis. Despite having little brain activity, he experienced what he describes as a journey beyond this world, encountering a realm of immense love, divine beings, and a profound sense of unity.  He believes his experience provides scientific insight into consciousness beyond the brain. After miraculously recovering, he wrote Proof of Heaven, detailing his NDE and how it transformed his understanding of life, death, and the nature of reality.
