1220-First Multi-Organ Pig-to-Human Xenotransplantation

This study details the first successful orthotopic multi-organ xenotransplantation of a whole liver and bilateral kidneys from a six-gene-edited pig into a human decedent. Researchers utilized the "Sun" surgical technique for simultaneous implantation and reperfusion, maintaining graft stability and physiological function for approximately five days. High-dimensional profiling through single-cell transcriptomics and metabolomics revealed that the grafts successfully avoided hyperacute rejection while shifting toward human metabolic baselines. The analysis identified S100A12+ neutrophils as central immune coordinators, providing a cellular roadmap for managing early host responses.
