from Holistic Interior Design Podcast

This special replay of Episode 30, Breathing New Life into Fallen Trees, features my friends Dan and Jessica of San Diego Urban Timber. I want to share this episode with you again as a reminder of the many amazing partners that we can work with locally that support our mission as holistic interior designers and that also bring something truly unique to our designs. Dan and Jessica build amazing pieces for homes out of reclaimed San Diego trees. The pieces they create are functional art, meaning they are beautiful and serve a purpose. They are visual proof of what can be done with our own natural resources—resources that would have otherwise been discarded. Dan and Jessica also share their story about how they began working with reclaimed wood and how San Diego Urban Timber grew into what it is today. The move towards more renewables in our energy systems complicates matters even further, requiring the development of an integrated power grid and continuous and steady transformation of the UK power system. Network flows must be managed reliably under uncertain demands, uncertain supply, emerging network technologies and possible failures and, further, prices in related markets can be highly volatile. Mathematicians working with engineers and economists, can make significant contributions to address such issues, by helping to develop fit-for-purpose models for next generation energy systems. These interdisciplinary approaches are looking to address a range of associated problems, including modelling, prediction, simulation, control, market and mechanism design and optimisation.
