124. The Hidden Stages of Long-Term Sobriety

from Unbottled Potential · host Amanda Kuda

Most conversations about sobriety focus on getting through the first 30, 60, or 90 days. But what happens after that? What happens when you've already quit drinking, built some confidence, and proven to yourself that you can live alcohol-free? In this episode, I'm sharing five common phases I've observed in women navigating years two through five of an alcohol-free life. These aren't official stages, and they certainly don't happen in a neat, linear order. But after nearly a decade alcohol-free and eight years coaching women through this journey, I've noticed some clear patterns. Many women assume the hardest part is quitting drinking. What often surprises them is that sobriety creates enough clarity for deeper questions to emerge: Who am I now? What no longer fits? What do I actually want? What am I here to do? In this episode, we explore the phases that tend to follow once alcohol is no longer taking up all the oxygen in the room. In this episode, you'll learn: Why many women outgrow their initial sobriety support systems The "reckoning" phase that often follows early sobriety How alcohol-free living exposes deeper misalignments in work, relationships, and lifestyle Why so many women become self-help and certification junkies The difference between collecting knowledge and implementing it How your ego can create chaos when life finally becomes peaceful Why you may find yourself romanticizing a past version of yourself The surprising danger of abandoning the routines that helped you get here How to recognize which phase you're currently navigating Why ongoing support matters long after you've stopped drinking If you've ever found yourself wondering, "I've quit drinking...so why does it still feel like there's more work to do?" this episode is for you.
