He is the author of "The Butchers of Prague," a fictionalized novella based on an adventure in Prague that landed Carl in the operating room suffering from medical mishaps and surgical butchering. In this episode, Carl talks about the incident that became the inspiration for the book, how a spinal fusion led to him overcoming a twelve-year addiction to opiates, and how this surgery was the catalyst for him picking up a pen to tell his story.
