Not enough room, not so squeezy in here. Alright, good morning, good afternoon, good evening, listening to the old talk car podcast. Yeah, I'm getting something very special, hosted by Peter Onus, the driver for tonight is a little bit stuffer, we're doing a live driver, we're doing something really special, it's got to be some statistics before we reveal what it is. One of 34 of these little beautiful cars came to the country, so it is very rare, but not talking about the Holden Piazza either.
I can't even read my stats, it's obviously German based on American make-up, there's a clue, and it's got, I just reveal it, it's a BMW Z3 M, the Red Van, the Country Country, whatever you want to call it, is the Dabscats. It was ugly as fuck, right? I loved it back then and I love it now. We got our hands on one and I was the four-way we went to nightclubs, did you want one?
No, that's why I love this car, exactly. That's why my mates didn't mean that the nightclubs. I thought you had full performance, it was ugly. No, they said they need to get the ugly cheeks.
They're the good looking ones, they'd be like, why are you interested in going on mate? I fucking went to the wing man, you were the bully man. I was not bad. I was going to the A3A.
So basically, we're in a Z3, well what's starting off as a Z3 convertible, that was built in America, it's Spartanburg, the BMW factory was filling you back in the day. So basically the M Division thought, you know what, let's make this into a M car and then what they did is, is this the original shooting break? Nah, the shooting break was the old cars from England when they used to put the M car. So basically they said, well the convertible's a piece of shit, we have to put a roof on it, and that's why they came up with this.
He was a piece of shit for our van design. Even James Bond couldn't say that. Nah, if anything you wanted the baddie to blow it up in GoldenEye. So basically they chucked in a 3.2 litre, inline 6 from the M3, it's M3 engine, isn't it?
It is. It's 136 kilowatt and it's day with a 5-speed box. 5-speed manual, it's got the hero in colour blue. It's a little blue.
If anyone remembers being ducked from the 90s, it's got the cockpit, the orange dials. It's got useless extra gauges down either the gearbox. It's got the baddie-believing head up. It was actually just heavy with some volt meter and battery there.
Yeah, it was all pressure, it was temperature, and also a clock. And a lighter? It's got a lighter button. It's just standard BMW interior, but it's got some magical go-fast bits.
And it's a cot. I love his car. It's almost like a Frankenstein, because the rear end I think is M3, and the front end is Z3. So they're sort of made into a Frankenstein-type car, but fucking turns heads.
It's a beautiful car. These things are going up in value. We've got to see if we collect the cars, we've got our heads on it. It's going to be a new owner tomorrow, so we only had our last chance to drive it.
But basically, the reason I got a little drive on it, I mean I had a car in it earlier, is because back in the day, how you had a V36M3? I had the S&P, which was basically the manual gearbox with an actuator and a flappy paddle. Well, you didn't have the flappy paddle yet. You just had to move the gearbox, but it wasn't very refined.
It was better off. And you still had to wait for it to change gears? I remember that in the V46s. A lot of people did actually convert them to manual boxes by removing the actuator pump and everything and putting the third pedal in because the box was essentially the manual box.
It was a manual box, but it wasn't like a dual clutch. It was just a automated manual. It was basically an automated manual, but it took forever. Then the SMG2 came out in the V46, and driving around town was a bit of a bitch, but once you got up and danced, the M cars, like this car, this car was like a little bit of a bull to drive slowly.
But once you hammer this thing, everything just becomes easy. This is a beautiful, I wish I had the money. If I had the money, well, the room, I'd just be like, beautiful, but the owner looked after this thing. There's a lot of Ks on this thing, but you can take the one off it and it's a bit more convincing.
I'd say it's got 85,000 and 185. And the engine still burns. It's got that BMW sound, that inline 6. It's not a loud exhaust.
Back when 25 years ago, there wasn't all about exhaust. It was just about performance and handling. And since it's got the big hips, the white car. It's got the big tyres.
The only 7-8, but that would be tyre back then. It's down, it was big. I think they're 7-8 by 9.5 or 10. But quite exhaust.
I don't know if I look at these a few years back. They're 155,000 people after. You should have got it there because they're all two. They're 6-8 figures now.
You would have one for three if you sold the other one. Yeah, I don't know if in Australia they came out as a non-airm. I know in America they sold them as non-airm as well. The bread van.
No, we need to get the non-airm. We just got the 34-Ams, which was, you had the convertible and the clamp true. The convertible I could never, like, I just, you couldn't have, them or not. You can nearly give those white knots once.
Yeah. Right, they're just knots. You really, really have the wrong one. But this thing here is, this thing's amazing.
Yeah. It's there, Dao. It's a beautiful coat. It's tight.
Like where we're, you feel low to the ground. It is a... It's not. It's a hard time I was in something this small.
Who's that fucking red baron flying that someone got me down to the floor? Right? I got up to the first of all, the minute that I never thought I'd get close to. You were right at this coffee.
I mean, I've got a DMX5. It's not as snug as the DMX5. But the seats don't go back much further from you. You've got the mesh.
I think that was an option. You've got this little wire, not the barrier. We can throw it further, further, further passenger. Because it almost is like a van.
It's a van back there. There's no re-seat. I mean, it was based on the converter. There's always purely a two-seat up from the start.
But it is practical as well. Yeah. It's just a great thing. But you've got a driver in there.
You're going to really enjoy it. It's a bit of a ball around town. The clutch is a little bit heavy. It's nice to get you free to it.
But really, these things. I remember back in the day, there was a few floating around. When they threw some quarter livers at them and set them up for a bit of track work. Because they set the five speed box where the A36 is, especially the second gen, the first one through the three-light up and the second one's got the six speed.
So the five speed box, these things. The good key box. It's just bang, bang, bang, bang. You just go straight.
The ratio's going to get it wrong. Nah. It's a lot of the trouble getting into reverse earlier. But that's rookie area.
I haven't driven it. You've been in a while. They've got that funny dog leg reverse up next to first. Here we go.
We're now in Mexico. We're there. We're at the race cars around this area of town. We can't distract it back in the back of those days.
And as well as a couple of years ago, we're done. The V8 Supercars were running around here. So we've got it to ourselves tonight. Here we go.
No, we're not. Okay. Ah, no. We're getting broke into it.
Ah, no. We're going to get. We've got to try plates on. That's right.
I'm a dealer. I'm a director of collector cars. Evening. Thank you.
Special for random testing. Yeah, sure. Yeah. The digital one or the...
Oh, whatever. I'm a dealer and we're test-riding it. No, I'm just doing it. Yeah.
Yeah. We're doing a podcast. We're selling it. Yeah.
185. Yeah. It's mid-side. If you took the zero off the front, you wouldn't know it.
Yeah. Yeah, thank you. No, no, no. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight.
All good. Thanks, officer. Give me some help. What was it?
The boys in blue gave it the thumbs up. Something we were about to get right. We got new arms. We were able to try plates at night.
They just wanted to look at the car. There you go. I think we got there. So, like I said, I've been suffering collector cars.
Is that his issue or car? We're just like, oh, shit. We got the trade plate on it. We did.
So, we got the trade plate on it. And we got to pull them on the circuit for breath testing. So, they must be, you know, suddenly. I don't know why we had the back snapping out coming in the corner.
I don't know why I didn't do it, but there you go. I don't know how friendly it was going to be for you to be done there. So, well, we got the ticket of approval from the boys in blue. And, yeah, I didn't check the seat if you had a license.
So, there you go. So, we weren't going to give it. That was why there was a bit of a numb silence. I was randomly checking for...
What would you... Well... Where would they be? I want people coming back home.
I'll come back home. They'd be walking for apartments around here. You know, you're right, good. So, the boys are out there doing their job and good on them.
So, basically, we've got to find another part of the circuit to drive this thing and then go. That's a good bit of a problem. Go around the backway. Yeah, I don't know if I'm going to talk to friends.
Take care of who I'm taking. I don't know if the new one normally plays show. There's guitar in Canada tonight. So, we're on a road made out of tiles here.
That's the paper, so that's why it's a bit rickety-racket-eatment. Like we told the other half of the friendly officer, like there's a fair bit of case on his thing. And it's in good condition. So, I think we'll be right down here.
Right, let's see what we do around this 90 degree bend. It's not red lines at seven and a half. You want... ...nothing like the sound of a straight six.
For a nearly 30-year-old car, 25-year-old car, made... ...the engine likes to get up there and pop and dance up at the top end. It doesn't just keep pulling like a train all the way to redline. And it's just builds and builds and builds.
It's not like a turbo type car with thrust or anything like that. You've just got plenty of torque. It just keeps pulling and pulling and pulling. And you don't feel like you're going fast in this, but you are.
There you go. What a beast of a car. What a better car, something we do. Yeah, we're driven in cars, mate.
We've got to fly to get some photos of it. Alright, so there you have it. That's basically... We found you 34 in the country.
Very early on we'll get the drive-by again. Then we'll put some shots. I took some shots a month to go to Instagram. We've been promising to drive this thing.
We're just having that chance to get our hands on it tonight. So I hope you enjoyed that. This is the BMW Z3M. Coupe.
Coupe. And just following up from the last episode, how I'll just do the other little car is ready to go. I drove it the other day. We'll talk about it in the next one.
We've gone from a 90s Super Coupe to a 90s. We've gone from a 90s Super Coupe to a 90s. We've gone from a 90s Super Coupe to a 90s Super Coupe to a 90s Super Coupe. So get set for the next live drive that's lined up.
Ready to go. So again, thank you for listening. Download us, rate us, review us, send us your emails at alltalkatoutlook.com.au. Like I said, last episode of FUIL, baby's lined up.
