128 – Revive Yourself – Ryan Martin On What The Blue Zones Have To Teach Us About Longevity

from Revive Yourself Podcast With Ryan Martin · host Revive Yourself Podcast With Ryan Martin

Today’s episode is a solo cast with yours truly. I haven’t done an episode on my own in a while, and it was actually really enjoyable, and it’s always something I think I should do more of, so it is something I will be striving to do.  In today’s episode I wanted to talk about something that is becoming all the rage in the health world, and that anti aging and longevity. However, I didn’t want to talk about all the new bio-hacking treatments and procedures that people are doing, because in my opinion, lots of them are negated when you start to live in accordance to mother nature. Instead I wanted to concentrate on the lessons we can learn from the Blue Zones. If you don’t know what the Blue Zones are then let me explain… The Blue Zones are over a dozen different areas in the world where we find a disproportionately high number of centenarians - people who are living 100 years or longer - such as in Ikaria and Sardinia and Nicoya. There is a great book you can get on this topic titled, “Blue Zones” by Dan Buettner.  Dan wandered around the world doing research into a lot of these areas where people are living a far longer period of time than the rest of the world. What Dan then did was he created a kind of a Venn diagram of all the overlapping characteristics that we see in many of these societies, and a lot of this stuff we can take and implement into Western culture.  Many of the tactics are basic, sure, but there is a reason that they work. As they say, “Mother Nature doesn’t make mistakes”, and as you will see from this podcast, it’s no wonder these people are all living longer than us.   Amongst the practices in the Blue Zones 12 really that stand out, and I’m going to go through all 12 of those with you today.  To Your Health & Happiness Ryan
