129: What Is Our Moral Imperative? – A Conversation with Rose Whitmore

In this episode, we speak with author Rose Whitmore about the moral imperatives that writers must uphold when writing nonfiction based on fallible memories and fiction set in cultures not their own. Rose’s debut novel, Exiled, set during Enver Hoxha’s dictatorship in Albania, is forthcoming from Dzanc Books. She’s the recipient of the 2021 James Jones First Novel Fellowship, the Oran Robert Perry Burke Award from The Southern Review, and the Pedan Prize from The Missouri Review, and she’s received support from Hemingway House, Hedgebrook, the San Leandro Arts Commission, and others. She holds an MFA from the University of New Hampshire and has taught creative writing at Stanford University.
