12th May 2024 - Luke 10:1-24 - The reason for rejoicing - Charles Kimbangi

from Christ Church Surbiton Hill · host Christ Church Surbiton Hill

Sunday morning was full of praise, prayer, fellowship and to listen to God's Word. We are in the middle of a series called ‘Good News for all’ and we are exploring how the gospel of Jesus Christ is good news for everyone. In Luke 10, Jesus sends out his disciples to preach the good news of the Kingdom. He asks them to pray; asking the Lord for more workers in the harvest field and he sends them out with nothing, teaching them to totally depend on the Lord for provision. Their mission is successful and they return rejoicing that even demons submit to them in Jesus’ name. I love Jesus’ response. “...Do not rejoice that the spirits submit to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven” (Luke 10:20). These verses are so practical and relevant to us today. As we go on mission with Jesus let’s pray for more workers, let’s go in weakness and utter dependence on God and let’s rejoice, not in our performance, but let’s rejoice that our names are written in heaven’s book.
