13. Chungking Express (Wong Kar-wai)

This episode is dedicated to four legends that we lost in the past few weeks: Betty White (1922-2021), Sidney Poitier (1927-2022), Peter Bogdanovich (1939-2022) and Bob Saget (1956-2022). We kick off our 2022 episodes with possibly our best film yet. Everybody (and by everybody, I mean everybody who’s seen it) loves Chungking Express, especially the one and only Quentin Tarantino, who was responsible for it getting a wider audience when he arranged to have it distributed in the US. It’s possibly the first bona-fide film kid masterpiece we’ve ever done on Watch This. But will Wong’s distinctive style pull us in like it did with so many others? Let’s find out!
