13 - Explaining the Desecration (2)

Another type of desecration that occurs is when a person commits a transgression without any desire to do so. If there is no real drive to sin its considered as if he's acting rebelliously, and the Chofetz Chaim applies this desecration to both the speaker and listener. Seemingly people enjoy speaking gossip and derive pleasure from it, so how it be said that there's no benefit to it? Perhaps we can explain the pleasure as a feeling of providing juicy information to people which will enhance our honor. But this is a façade, in truth if we would contemplate this it would become apparent that no respect is given for those who speak improperly about those and in actuality people are even more wary of a gossip monger. Be'er Mayim Chaim Please send any feedback for any of the episodes to [email protected]
