13: The Headaches of Working with Insurance
from Sincerely, 2 Imperfect Therapists · host Sincerely, 2 Imperfect Therapists
Today we discuss insurance. In light of recent events, we thought it would be a good idea to talk about our perspectives and what we hear from our peers regarding working with insurances. To be honest, we don’t go into the nitty gritty details of claims and paneling process, we are straight up venting. As therapists, we are always trying to look at our glass half full instead of empty- but sometimes we just need to talk about how things can really suck. Grab your comfort item, we sure did as we discussed the following: The hell that is the paneling process. Insurance companies are not paying their providers fair wages. Insurances making their providers and customers jump through hoops to use the insurance they're already paying for. Denying client claims and dictating how, when, why, what their care looks like. Our health care system isn’t set up for preventative care. Expectations for documentation and determination for eligibility of services. Audits and "clawbacks" (cue internal screaming). Insurance and confidentiality. Being paid low rates can lead to burnout. To take care of our community, we need to take care of our providers.
