#130: Getting to the Root of Homework Resistance
from Shining With ADHD by The Childhood Collective · host The Childhood Collective
Let's take a moment to imagine a scenario. Picture yourself in a typical workday, hustling in your office. It's non-stop, and by the end of the day, you're exhausted, craving nothing more than some well-deserved relaxation at home. However, as soon as you step through your front door, your boss sends you a flurry of texts with a laundry list of tasks that need immediate attention. Sounds pretty dreadful, doesn't it? This is how homework can feel to children with ADHD. They have kept it together ALL day long at school, and their brains are tired. This turns into battles at home, kids using negative self-talk, and mountains of stress. In this episode, we are getting to the root of homework resistance and providing tools to minimize the struggle. MEET OUR TEAMWe are Lori, Mallory, and Katie. Lori and Mallory are child psychologists, and Katie is a speech language pathologist. We’ve spent decades supporting thousands of families navigating ADHD. And we’re also moms: some of us raising kids with ADHD and some of us navigating it ourselves… which means we understand both the science and the real-life moments that don’t make it into textbooks.LINKS + RESOURCESShining at School Online CourseEpisode #105: Is It Just ADHD or Something ElseEpisode #124: Homework Success Starts with the SpaceThe Childhood Collective YouTube *Closed Captioning AvailableThe Childhood Collective InstagramHave a question or want to share some thoughts?
