on the Top of Swats radio. I'm Ryan and along with me, we've got Mr. Buckmill, Will over Canada. What's up, guys?
And today we've got a lovely little treat for you. It's the 20th anniversary of the DC video, one of Mine and Will's favorite videos of all time. So what better do is do a proper, classic skate companion. So we're gonna watch along and then maybe chat a little bit of shit along the way.
But if you're ready, get the video lined up, if you're going to YouTube, type in DC video, get that lined up and then we'll press play together. So you can pause us, get your own synths and everything. And then when you're ready to go, we're gonna count from three to one and press play. And then we're gonna be all on the same time code.
So here we go then. So it's gonna be three, two, one, play. And as it's coming in from black and with the mate and getting the video, I suppose. You're still black when you're not.
Yeah, I think it's just rolling in. Cool. So yeah, we've got the DC Films logo coming up mate. Yeah, on a little projector screen.
And now what better way to start any video, helicopter shot to announce, to really get things going. Is it a bit of Metallica in here as well mate? I think it's Metallica. Yeah.
The soundtrack DC logo, DC Shuko USA, which I always prefer. I always love it. Yeah, you want the USA on there. Yeah.
And then we've got the high angle, over shoulder shot, Danny Way rolling down the mega ramp with a couple of DC logos at the end of it. I'm saying this has gotta be a helicopter shot because you know, drains probably went out to 2003. And there we go, the DC video. And then this opened up on touch mate with the Metallica play in the background.
Just there's no, singing in it is there. It's just literally just, It's the audio. It's a riff. And now we're just introducing everyone, Robbie D, Josh Kales, Danny Way, Steven Williams of course, Abe, Yep.
Winning, Robin McKinley. Hey. Greg Myers. Yeah.
Brian's in there mate. Not Lindsey. Lindsey Hillflip King. But this, yeah, I don't think I've watched this whole video for a long time mate.
It's been a long time. And it's, it makes you just go like, yeah, this video is just so good. Just edit, as fast paced edit, just hitting you in there, showing you all the different characters that are going to be featuring in this film. You bet it'll always get you going as well.
Oh, all the right spots we want to see. Yeah, exactly. You see in Love Park, you see in Macbirse, you know, the vast loads of spots hunting in the beach. It's in a load of classics.
And it's just, it's getting, it's just getting going in it. It's just, Oh yeah. We've seen some alien boards. We've seen it all.
We are switch trays. Some mega ramps. And obviously Danny has to have himself into the black mate. I've got us.
And then we start with Abe. Thank you, Van Englund. Thrown to manga. And this, yeah, this little prelude to his part of him just, yeah, raging.
Hacking his wall into the sign box with cards. It's a traffic. And then blesses you straight away. Lovely.
With the, that is switch nose. And that switch nose reverb. I think it is, yeah. Switchback nose.
It's hard to know with, with Abe because, like we said before, is switch tray is one of the best of all time. Switch anything really, but it's such a unique style as well, mate. Oh, yeah, definitely. No one's skating like these days.
Like it's a really weird mashup of like tech, old school. Yeah. And precise and free, you know, SSBSTS. Little flick out there, make a lovely push up out of there.
You see that? Did the exchange to push back into regs? That's it. Big crook round the corner, backside out.
Yeah, it's just nice seeing the shoes on his feet as well. Make some, some big boys on his feet. Oh, yeah. New amount of switch crooks we've already been asking.
This switch, Manny, switch tray, I think it's at La Park is insane. Yeah. So good. That control, lovely switch flip.
Huge balance, backside five though, switch, backside five. Yeah, the bar, so. This is such a, I think this is the line we spoke about before, mate, where he just pings that switch tray out in the middle of his line. It's like, yeah, you fuck everything.
If you try and have just put a switch tray in there, it's not always a good idea. No. Yeah, this little bit questionable, like a really down the line. But yeah, just doing a serfy little slashy grind, mate, and a switch tray in the same.
And that switch flip up that, must be nice there. Awesome. Little mirrored line there as well, mate, with the bike, the bike backs. Oh, barefoot in the bowl there.
Yeah, for action, mate. Got the supreme stickers on there as well. Yeah, so that would be a snake. Here we are in a batter.
Classic ledger. What was he, what was he getting lessons with? Switch back side by though. Sneaky front one out.
Sneaky front one out. Switch flip, Manny, switch flip out. Switch tray. Oh, fucking pinching on that switch nose or switch crook.
And that backside out of that crook, you just don't see that sort of stuff anymore. No, you don't, you don't. And they're not even hanging about me. They're not even hanging about.
Abe's gone. And now... Straight in with the K-Lus. Big love park signs.
Yeah. Great tunes. K-Lus is probably doing some burnout and is a femur at the time. And it starts up with beautiful, little knollipacks up, look on, mate.
Yeah. What a quick feed K-Lus has and, wow. Tint some lovely big barriers, mate. Yeah, just, just a freedom to escape as well, mate.
Again, a lot of super tech, but he's still free. He's not so kind of patient-pung into the trick selection. Yeah, we just saw the barrel heel over the... The trash can?
Trash can at Love, which obviously Mr. Bill, you recently, has been doing the Switch variety. Yeah, it's a good back to it. A bit of a kick in the car.
Yeah, yeah, yeah. The vibe is so good. Gangstar with the Love Park cutaways with the locals and the community. Yeah, not half-cab nose blunt.
Two to pay. One, eight, yeah. It's such a complete trick. Here's his daughter.
What a Switch crook. And just what a schooisy Switch purchase, wow. You ain't seeing these... SSBS, the finish, mate.
Yes. So good. Like I was saying, you can see the freedom in the lines, mate. Yeah.
They're just handling business on their own terms. They're not just being regimented with their filming. You can tell they're just filming, they get what they get. Yeah, definitely.
It just seems we could get anything at any moment. Lovely. Wow. Here we go, mate.
Here we go. Here it is. You're running up. Lovely.
Possibly. Possibly the greatest Switch year of all time. It'd be in the conversation, right? Oh, yeah.
The speed of the flip, the lightness of the hang time, mate. You know what I mean? Like everything about that switch here was just incredible. Now we've got the cops kicking everyone out.
And what's such a cool little segment, a little bit, mate, with Big Black? Yeah, Robbie D saying he just needs that security. Yeah. Yeah, Big Black.
What an absolute legend. He said many times on the podcast that Big Black was a massive inspiration, in terms of getting your shit. When he says hit up Rob, I used to say that to myself all the time. If someone was, if you were just about to hit something, mate, I'd give you a little hit up Rob.
Yeah. Just bring a little bit of humour, but also get it done for Big Black. Right. You might get one shot.
You're a bit of a blink in, I think, in terms of where did he come from? In terms of, is he just an actor that he got into do this? I'm pretty sure he is a real security guy from a shot. Right.
I can't go into it now, I just can't quite remember. But there is a little section, I think, kind of like a little rest in peace there. And Robbie D kind of explains the whole story of everything. And you know, if they're paid for stepping on the board, mate, that's not his.
Yeah, it's not his. It's not his. Nobody's asking for the crisps. Nobody likes crisps, mate.
From a nicely put together shot as well, really cool shot. But yeah, what an absolute legend. And what legend Robbie D is as well, mate? Oh yeah.
He doesn't actually get the credit. He's almost got the fam effects where he doesn't get the credit of what sort of skate rewards. I mean, handrail skaters, mate. He was a fucking top tier handrail skater.
You know, 100% have done super tech on handrails, but he could throw it down. Yeah, 100% right. Definitely a lot of people only know him for his TV persona. I'm not realizing how he got there.
But yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, decent style. We had a just efficient, steady style and land and shit. Yeah, definitely from the era.
Lovely pop chef crooks. Exactly, mate. Throw him pop shop crooks out. The bar's a bus station.
It's just trick selection. It's just trick selection. Everything just looking great. The filming's awesome as well, by the way.
That does help. Lovely switch 180. Kind of faking knows me. There we go.
Trying to break his board. Infestration, no problem for big black. Straight through it. Lovely.
And how do you always that mate? Yeah, five o'turn over to switch crook. Lovely. Just the pacing of this part as well is it's almost shotgun at it.
But they've got decent amount of lines in there as well, just to break it up. What has he got for us? Switch tail all the way around. Two, seven, eight.
Lovely. He's got a nice switch tail, isn't he? He's got a decent one. Nice big gnarly for us.
We like a big gnarly mate. It's crazy that it's 20 years ago mate. I mean, yeah, some of the tricks don't necessarily hold up. But a lot of them do.
Definitely. A lot of them really do. And a lot of the lines do as well. And it just seems like they were selling the characters better to us.
I mean, obviously, Bob Dee was exaggerated. But even all the other guys, you get to more of a flavour of them. Yeah, we definitely kind of missed that these days with no one who's some skaters are. In this video, you know everyone and you get a little taste of their personality.
Yeah, now we're introducing Ryan Smith, mate. The other guy in Maiden. A bit of Iron Maiden. Classic Zero Skater, Classic Mystery Skater.
Yep. And again, just a combination of Tekken, Heavy here. Oh yeah, definitely known for his biggest stuff. I mean, without him, they wouldn't even start at Mystery.
Do you know what I mean? Him and Lindsey Robertson, you wouldn't even have enough depth for even start like a secondary brand. Yeah, no, definitely. Lovely tree flip, no slide there.
Three, six, six, six foot, no slide. Beautifully done. And it's nice to see the facts on here and align mate. Yep.
And a switch when I flip together. Two 180 flips. Nice big five though. Yeah, round rail five though.
Ah. Yeah, such a nice style, some fun tricks in there. Yeah. Super nice.
He was a big spin motherfucker, wouldn't he? Yes. He was a top tier, big spin board legend of the game. Yeah, definitely.
One of my favourites there, mate. Flip back, no slide. Yeah. Such a difficult trick to hit on something that size.
Yes. That is ridiculous. Nice big hill flip for us. Yeah, that's one 180.
Yeah, that's one 180. Yeah, Lindsey Robertson's just joined the room. Beautiful. Nice.
Hill flip front board. Big back side. The size of some of these hill flips they make are fucking unreal. Yeah, it's real big air time.
No, is that full cab of the Macber? Lovely DC links on in this line. Yeah, bless is it. Switch front, side flip.
Followed by switch front heel. Ah. Beautiful. Such a big pop shove.
Beautiful five oh down there. I think that was a set that Rowley did his front lip on the side. Nice, yeah. Is that the nose blunt or is that almost nose blunt over crack?
Over crack, yeah. Over crack blunt. Yeah. It's hard to tell.
Sick though. And a nose skateboard video makes complete without a fake phone call. Yep. Like you have to have a fake phone call in your skate video and this is kind of introducing us to column OK, just giving excuses why he's not putting out much footage but we're going to be blessed with a full part anyway.
So showing us some little Canadian spots. Do you know about whereabouts in canary's from makes? No, but this is they were kind of all pointing towards Vancouver and BC on the map. So he was talking about a lot of getting trying to get different work visa.
So maybe kind of stuck in Canada for a bit there. And what a good song choice as well, mate. Yeah, pure fun. We're just being hammered here with some huge vert ramps skills.
Yeah, hitting backs like that on the vert ramp mate. Just with a revert in it is just ridiculous. It's extension like a table back to each other. Like that nose grind.
Who's trying that? Who's pissing about with that? Like a vertical nose grind front free kind of to send into the roll in. Yeah, that's ridiculous.
All the tail bombs. So really, really tech. Yeah, even just on a flat ground ledge, these would be high tech tricks. Yeah, but that DC vert ramp mate, that was that was designed for progression with like the different angles on the on the ramp itself.
A decent enough deck to actually put the obstacles on. We're moving on now, mate. We've got Colin and now we've got the little kind of intro video for Brian winning. From B-Dubs, yep.
And so well put together, still keeping humour. They keep the humour through it. You've got Rob D, sit next to a lamp. Tim O'Connor, just growing the legend, I suppose, aren't we?
That's what we're doing. The Tom Penny vibe. Talking about how much he's been. Oh, Brian's been partying.
This part, mate. You must absolutely adore this. Oh, yeah. The track, done with it.
The whole vibe, the edit, this is pure streetscape, this is what you want to see. Starting off with that mate. That's just telling you how good I am. Yeah.
Manual switch hill, I'll just push around into the egg and show you what else I got. Yeah. What a relaxed style as well, winning has got arms down. Whenever he can keep his arms down, mate his arms are down.
Nice big gnarly. Yeah. You've got to throw a gnarly out mate. There's so much going on.
This is pretty much a little shotgun style there between lines again. Lovely gnarly front crack. Switch flip back tail. Carries it on.
The Stakey Oli switch crack. Switch 5.0. Through the little gap at Macba. Yeah.
Is this anymore? Is this how isn't it? Back nose, gnarly heel. Mate, what are you saying about that then?
Mate, that switch back three is just beautiful. Awesome. It's put position on the take up as well. It's such a nice spot.
It was so controlled. Just the way this is all filmed just makes it look so good. Lovely switch back tail biggie. Now is it now?
Now is it in regular stance mate? Yeah. That's not all. Now back to switch.
Switch back 5.0 heel flip out. Yeah, so good. So good. And then again another nose grind down a hubba 180 out.
Two different skaters. Switch tail down the Mac before block. It's a real nice precise moves here at Macba. Gnollipax side flip.
Beautifully done. Between the legs. So relaxed. Switch front jump back 5.0.
Switch back Smith down a lovely hubba. Yeah, the shoulders are so spot on. It's just this position and then we're in. Love park mountain gap.
Switch back one. Huge. It's a great trick as well to throw. It's a nice trick but to throw that.
It does spin nicely for you. You've got some control for that. Yeah, you certainly do. And then we're at Greg Myers.
A little cannonball of escape order. Starting us out with a big little dirt gap. Big ollie of a rail. Did he hit the big time Greg Myers?
I don't think so. It's the child apology. Lovely big front jump. Such a great skater for his age as well.
Yeah. You know, hitting back lips, hitting switchboard sides. You know, he might have to do some research and find out what actually happened to him. But it's got all the moves.
Huge front feeble. Nice big back side for us. Got my kiddly. Well, R.I.P.
recently left us. Yeah. Oh, the caliber as well. Yeah, such a tech skater as well, mate.
Lovely, gnollie back hill down the set. Lovely, gnollie flip. Gnollie here on the line. Huge, gnollie half-cab over a car.
Nicely done. Lovely. Back nose blunt on a... On a desk.
On an office desk there, yeah. Cruising out of that into Ryan Galant. Again, such a tech skater. Such a flipping flip out, man.
Yeah. Shotgun kick flip. He needs flipping to board mate isn't there? Flip, nose-brained reverb.
Beautiful switch, uh, switch very hill. Huge. Oh. Oh.
Just throwing everything mate. Yeah. Lovely flip front board. Double angle.
Nice little double kink 50. Switch flip. Nice back side hill. Oh, mate.
Lovely. That popped out of that flip five-o. It's cold as bad as well. It's nice to see cold as bad in video.
Yep. Flip front, quick big barrier. Yep. That big front salad.
Yeah. Proper salad mate. And this is where he's each is showing off now, right? Yeah.
Lovely. Back nose grind on the big cover there. Allow walk for us. Fucking textbook kick flip.
Textbook gnollie flip. Lovely. Fucking hell. Big boyfriend side flip.
Yeah. Bit of a bit of a... Mad... Ryan Galant, Melon Keens.
Nice. Not very tall mate. No, no. Was he hitting some...
Some tips? Yeah. Flip the grinds. Lovely.
Flip the grinds mate. Possibly my favourite part in the whole video coming up right now. Stevie Williams comes straight in with the front side flip. Manny.
Yep. In a line. You're still going. Same line.
You're still going. And you know, the way this line's filmed, it could have just been. Oh yeah, just following me. Yeah.
Yeah. You've seen the shape that Stevie Williams is in a moment mate. Yeah. He is fucking ripped.
Yep. He's still killing it. Definitely taking care of himself. Oh, huge pop shove.
Yes. That break, break, break. Switch. Huge switch pop shove nose grind.
The style of Stevie Williams will never get old. And who's hitting switch straight is better than him mate. Yeah. And just as casual as that, switch mongo push away.
Lovely. That's B.S. Oh. Pop over switch back T.
Lovely. Half lit Manny. Switch here. Just the tech in this video.
Half cab. Five over backs open it out. And I was skinny the boards aren't me. It's like I just went through it.
Yeah. Everyone needs skinny boards. Switch crook. Switch here on Manny mate.
Up the LA courthouse. Backside 180 shove both ways. Switch here back T. In the Stevie DC's as well.
The biggest switch pop shove you've ever seen in your life. Ah. Backside 180 up the stage. It's manual.
S.S.B.S. TS. All the way around 270. On the pier.
Fucking unreal. Waste high switch here back T. And then he does a special. The Samuel whatever it's called is switch.
Switch pop shove. Reverb midair. Yeah. Now we've got Conor McKay with his little gecko.
Lizzard. With a switch tray. Iconic switch tray from Danny Way. Introducing him in.
Young. Young D way there. Younger. Such a great scale.
You know what's coming. It's like fucking hell. You know this is going to be the heavier shit going. At the time such an anticipated section.
Not that any of the others weren't. But fuck. D way in hospital. You've got to pay to play mate.
You've got to pay to play. Oh yeah. Dust. Been kicked up by his big old vert DCs.
Some lovely warm up B roll for us. Yeah. Film quality footage you know. Slamming into the coping.
Hoping the board isn't going to land on his head. Big off axes. Barrel roll. Bail is here.
Fucking 540 barrel roll. Be enough to put most of us in hospital. Shred in the A frame on top of the vert ramp. That 540 frontside rodeo mate where you sit back to back is unreal.
Oh. Yep. The switch tray. You know Danny way is really one of those guys to do it all.
Huge. Huge as. You know. Minimum 12 feet put.
And it's good seeing him hit some second on some coping now. Yeah. Nolly heel back five. Fuck.
But it's good seeing the alien boards mate. Yes. You know. Nice seeing alien boards on his feet.
Oh. Kick flip indie from ramp to ramp up. Up the other ramp. Little bit of street footage.
He's like Ben Guist. He likes to say that he you know any kind of. Any kind of. Any kind of.
Any kind of. You know. You know. It's beautiful.
He'll intray. Switch frontside flip down the bell. I don't think that can't exist in Mac for any more. No.
No. It's not down to the ramp. Lovely back free off of the Mac before. It's huge.
The caliber of these airs is just next level. Even to this day. Christ there mate. Look at that.
Beautiful. And just in the DC logo everywhere. It's nice. Huge three foot DC stickers.
He's got the cherry picker out of the ramp. He's grinding it. If by the time he works out some of these tricks he's on the next trick. Yeah.
Frontside flip over Tony Hawk's channel gap is ramp. Some bulk lips for us. Flip back nose grind in. Wow.
No. It's grind flip five on the A frame. Vertical grinds. I mean using that ramp mate.
That kind of flat bank thing. That would send you. It's got that little transition just at the top of it. It's sending you a completely different way.
Really witty. It feels good. Especially you can skate like that. Fucking.
I mean what do you even call that mate? Yeah. Backside flip. Fakey.
Grind. There it is. It's straight. Off the.
And then you think in. You think in this. That's the end there. It's over now.
We didn't see what we started to film. Then we got to the Megra. I'll wait. It's been flashed in with a insanely big Megra ramp gap.
I mean without him. This. The Megra ramp scene now that some of these guys you know like the madness. Obviously Bob puts the working as well but Danny really kind of just.
You know there's been none of this on skate or anything. Huge. Huge. Like bone grab 360s.
Yeah. A tailbone or whatever on that one. Now he's doing some 360 burials. Whatever you want to call them.
We need really need to be crist taylor on the show. We need to tell us some of these grab. Huge. Frontside 540.
Yeah. Just winding up mate. I'm going to be a little bit more. I'm going to be a little bit more.
I'm going to be a little bit more. I'm going to be a little bit more. I'm going to be a little bit more. Just winding up mate.
Yeah. All the shapes. Send it in switch. It's just one of those just awe inspiring.
Skate sections mate. You just look at this like how the fuck is he just you just sending it. He is so confident in landing this stuff. Yeah.
It's definitely almost outside of the the skate realm. You know his hitting things only you see on snowboard and sort of thing. Yeah. Yeah.
Really a very small handful of people ever been able to achieve this. How could you reckon Danny way is on a snowboard? He must be decent surely. Yeah.
It's probably easy for him. He must be hit. He must have been a ten-eight year or something. Yeah.
Must have done. I mean people are doing fucking eighteen hundreds now. So I think he definitely must have been fairly easy for him to do something else. Wow.
Huge Christ there. Yeah. Wouldn't even like to guess how big that was. Oh no.
That's a method I think. That was a method. Yeah. Wow.
Then just to let everyone know he hits the two world records in one. Yeah. So it's such a great part mate. It's unreal.
And it doesn't get old. And just like that we've watched it in the silver. Yeah. Such an easy video to watch.
Exactly. It's the Ken Block. Yeah. Yeah.
Correct director. Yeah. Ken left us here as well didn't he I think. Yeah.
That's right. Yeah. I'm just being blessed with some lovely outro helicopter filming in the background. You know these days you don't you know you've got the drones and everything.
Think about how much a helicopter shot knuster than Jesus Christ. Yeah. Such such a good vibe. Nice seeing you know when you read like the outro of your proper skate geek.
You'll be reading who's thanking who. A bit of Ty Evans doing some filming in there. A bit of everyone mate. A bit of Ryan G.
Yep. Yeah. Bambs. Bambs personal film.
Gonna guess appearances. A bit of Mikey Taylor was in there. Rob Dutte's about there. But Kerry Gatson wellens fat.
Yeah. Danny Garcia in there as well mate. Chris Lambert as well. Who's who?
Right. Some lovely A B role here in Barca. Just attacking it. Just attacking Macba.
I think it would have been such a crazy time mate if you were kind of like a Barca local. And there's a lot of skateboarders and Barcelona. But when the US boys in Canada as well when they hit Barca, back in those like it would have been unreal this shit they were putting down and seeing it and progressing the sport. Yeah definitely.
And even just being on the over on the American side or whatever watching them go out there and just waiting to see what's coming back clip wise. It's one of those videos mate. I mean hard to give. We're not doing further ratings on this.
You know this is history. We don't do termarains on this. But the whole vibe. It's a five star.
Yeah. Well it's just the whole vibe of it mate. It's just what it should be. It's just so all the skates you want in there.
It's got the whole everything is just harmonious. Everything is just flowing into each other. You know you've got different gimmicks in there. But there's a thing there's a thread going through it that kind of just connects everyone.
You can see how they work together. Yeah definitely it's so well put together and everything just for the rest of the day. And everything just flows. You know you really no matter how many times you've seen it you know luckily it's been a while so you kind of get that extra kick from it.
But you just draw and straight in there you know you don't want to take eyes off of it. It's just so easy and fun to watch and everything escape film should be. Well it's funny mate you know when we do ask gay companions or we you know our breakdowns or whatever and sometimes we see a video that's like 45 minutes long and we're going like are we got that in us. Yeah is that we're going to be able to keep it going.
