Kevin qualified as a Registered Nurse in 1986 becoming part of the commissioned staff for Broderip Ward at the Middlesex Hospital, London, Britain’s first purpose built HIV/AIDS unit, opened by Princess Diana in 1987. Postgraduate nursing research followed at King’s College London (1987-1989) into improving metered dose inhalation through patient training in the physiology of the inhaled route. His doctoral research (1995-2001) focused on patients’ indeterminate experiences of the tests used in HIV/AIDS, the ELISA, Western Blot and PCR tests.
