We talk about Dionne’s origin story, how she went from backing singer to star and her relationship with iconic songwriters Burt Bacharach and Hal David, who were also her producers. We also delve into the origin of Natalie’s 60s fixation, why she left Nashville for Richmond, her struggles to make a Dionne Warwick style record in the 21st century, how her songwriting process compares to Bacharach and David and how touring as part of Jenny Lewis’s band shaped her artistically.
