Hello and welcome to Mega Mix 6. Your rule, you retro gaming lovers out there. We've got a lovely mix. Is he set in mix twice?
Yeah, mix. Three times of music from retro games. Is he set in the scene? Yes.
Just so you know what's going on? Yeah, we're just setting the scene. We're just setting the scene. And Matt, come on.
Let listeners know what we've got. So we've got a lovely tune for you. Wow, I don't think there's anyone here that does enjoy this. We've got the New Zealand story soundtrack.
That's all it is. It's just one song, the whole game in Ed Wren's. But it's beautiful. It doesn't matter.
Role. Move from a lovely little game there, man. No, not one did, yeah. I do, but I've never played the game myself.
Yes, thanks, me and Andrew's listening to Long Net in the break there. I can't believe you've never played. It was on the net, obviously, on the net. But I played on the Atari, coming off 64.
That's all shit. I mean, it was an old school. Like, old school one. Yeah.
That song, that was just that song forever. Just round and round and round and round and round. But those sounds made, those noises. That's what that's an old school game right there.
That is, it's like Mega Man who may or may not be appearing later in the show. They're the sounds, like they're talking used and coming into a new kind of dimension and you actually turn into a really good fucking tune. They're the sounds, though, that they are the original sounds. That's the last and the beginning.
They're playing around with them. But they're like the exploits on New Zealand's story. Like, they're fucking the enemies and shit on there. They've got someone that's fucking best.
Selection, they're fucking, and they're like, they're just like a fucking balloon. They're just like this cat on a balloon. Or just like a fucking metal, three metal balls connected to it. It's just fucking, it was a mental game.
So for our listeners who haven't played the game, what platformer, what's the threat? Platformer puzzle, essentially, you was a Kiwi, a little yellow Kiwi bird, not fucking just a Kiwi fella. Which would have been fine as well. But all your brothers and sisters get kidnapped.
And essentially, you have to go and fight away. No, I see all, and you have to go and rescue them. So you go all through New Zealand, that's why I see New Zealand story. You've got Auckland and all New Zealand.
Wellington. Wellington. All New Zealand areas. Hobbiton.
Hobbiton. All New Zealand areas. And then you have to fight, one of the times you have to go inside away with belly and shoot a belly and shit to get to rescue your belli. Basically, it's a game.
It's so good. You should try to play it. You should play it. It's proper always.
It's old, old, old old old old. It's like, I mean, 80s, 80s, row back classic. Properly. Yeah, classic, classic classic classic.
But yes, lovely. So lovely game. I enjoy it. And that sounds like...
Do you think this at the end is serious? Lovely. Lovely. Keep you going throughout your game, you know.
It's just enough just to go, just in touch. Just to keep you at it. So you mean, do you think? Yeah, and essentially just off the...
You go out on the level, you go from the start, you go to the end, classic platformer, jumping up shit, sometimes dropping down a shit, sometimes coming up shit. Jumping over shit or not? Jumping over shit. Shooting shit.
And also, you can, they're secret warp levels. So if you're standing the right place, shoot your arrow just in a random direction, and it'll walk the wall up here, jumping it, you skip to the top level. So... No.
You want to think of it there? Yeah, for an old game that might have been on, like I said, the NES, but also Commodore 64, Atari, blah, blah, blah, blah. That's good shit. It is good shit.
It's not that game that I never remember the name of. Oh, Imogen. Imogen. Oh, that's a lady's name.
Yeah, well, yeah, nice. Why'd you call Imogen? Well, because it's game back in the day. He named it.
He wanted to impress us. He named the game after it. You're going to play the other thing. No, no, no.
I don't even think the other thing to you. I'm pretty sure there was no soundtrack to get. All that was... Right.
Right. What's the next tune of it? What's the next tune of it? Go, go, go, go.
What's the next tune of it? Go, go, go, go. Go, go, go. Go, go, go.
Go. Right. Next up for you, ladies and gentlemen, we've got an absolute banger for you now. Now, this is coming from a sweet, sweet game.
We're talking a bit more after we've done this by now, but I don't know. Turtles in time. Suicerthing. Turtles in time.
So, they're cheeky boys in time. Turtles in time. Now, we're talking old school NES games as well. What's it?
Well, it's NES. No, Turtles in time is a SNES. It was SNES, yeah. It was an old school SNES game.
As always, we're talking about... I'm talking about... I'm talking about... I'm spitting my teeth at it.
That's what I'm talking about. But you can't beat that game. You can't beat that game. For the classic platform that it was, it's just so good.
So good. I sent you up. I come in for you to talk about it in a bit. I think we were.
I brought that to the Turbo. That's fucking the Turbo. I'm a collection of the Turtles. Like, old my collection for the PS4.
It's still on my bar. It's got an Amazon, by the way. Yeah. It is good.
It's good. It's good. It's good. It's good.
It's the best one. It's the best one. The rest of them are the arcade games. You're a bit of movement.
They're just so fun to play. It's literally just you walking on your smacking people you're fucking sorry or you're fucking... No chucks. No chucks or you're a stick or you're a...
You're a turtle weapon. You can't fit your turtle weapons, but you see all the turtles walking around the street with them. I mean, by your own, they'll have to carry them because it's part of their culture. So they're classic turtle weapons.
But yeah, you can't fault it really. It's a quality game. This is a lovely little video on YouTube. That's just said he in there.
Let's just say that he in there. He's in there. It's a little turtle climbing up a wall. He's between two walls of a corner of a wall.
A little turtle. A little turtle. I'm talking... Same sort of width as your phone, but not as long.
More turtle shape. Yeah. He was just literally going up the wall between him. Climbing up a wall and then someone frees frames it and puts a red...
Right. He's got a mask on him and puts a logo above it. Yeah, that's really sweet. It was good, isn't it?
It was good, isn't it? I think it was good. That's what it was. That's what it was.
That's fucking dark and I could dog whatever it is. It's good stuff. And someone falling off a bike or a scooter or something. I'm not sure if I like more when it's someone falling off a skateboard or a bike or a gun.
Or when it's like the little kids running into a door or a door frame. When you see a little kid just doing something stupid and then running off and then just smacking himself and hurting himself. It's like, that's getting in there. I like to see the kids get up though.
Oh yeah, I don't want to be dark. I want to make sure the kids are all right. Obviously, but they're having a little tumble. Keep having a tumble.
I don't think the keyboard cat is one of my good friends. Oh yeah, keyboard cat. Yeah, it's always been really close to him. There's one video of this lad who's on top of a place like something that's back garden.
And the mum or dad's saying, don't jump, don't jump, don't jump. And he jumps and goes through the slide. Through the slide and then he keeps the cat place. That's beautiful.
Yeah, that's good. That's good, isn't it? That's good, isn't it? You know, always fucking those influences that want to do something good.
They're like, I'm clearing out the beach or giving someone an iPhone. Like, that's bullshit. When it's just like them, like, they're talking ten years until they're beating up and then someone else is filling them, just chucking a rubbish just back on a beach and fucking off getting their car. Or giving someone an iPhone and then snatching it off an iPhone and driving them like that's it.
If you're eating it, you're improving these people. It actually just comes. These people aren't real good people. You don't want to see it.
You don't want to see someone give someone like homeless man. Some lunch. And then snatch off the right side. Just take it back off the gate.
Yeah. I'm going to give you a thousand dollars. Oh man, you're not really giving you a thousand dollars. Oh no, the best one I did enjoy is when some guy was just in a shop and he gets some lady says, like, it's your lucky day.
You've won this iPhone. Gives an iPhone. She walks out with just sexy alarms or a bunch of your weather. He's giving us something that he's obviously not brought for once.
He's nicking it. I mean, that was funny. I mean, that woman's fucked up but... Yeah, that was...
I like that. That was because she tried to power play him but he was laughing now. Yeah, yeah, yeah. But we were talking about it, didn't they?
Oh, we're talking about it. Everyone loves eating it. Tell me one person these days that doesn't love the internet. So, talking a good internet and good songs on the internet.
What have you got lined up for us there? Next up I've got for you is a little treat for you. We've talked about this before, we've had him on the show, he's always in a tab when he's about... I've got earthwood, gym 2 classic and I think, Tangerines, they end up fucking songs, didn't they?
They end up talking songs, didn't they? They don't just say it to everyone to take their's in. Doo doo doo doo doo doo doo! That's memory-laying for me.
You're big I'm facking man. You're a big I am a big I'm a fan. You're a big fan. You're a bigger.
You're a sporty day. You're a sporty son. Everyone's coming up. Yeah, yeah.
I am a really... I'm a real... I'm a real gym 2 man. I am as well mate.
I had a up on Jim 2 and I was pretty decent. I could do one on hard difficulties, me and Sidecrow, you know, with that race at the end up, it's him, even though he really tries to, like he's a hard boss. It's not the only up to be, it's a funny boss level, because it's just a race. Yeah, literally he's got to be the first across the line.
Yeah, which I like it. And the good thing about up from Jim 2 as well, was that all the levels are different. You know, you've got your classic platformers with it. Well done.
Well done. Well done. Well done. You know, and also your, the dynamic of like getting through the level isn't just going through the level like a Mario or a Sonic.
Yeah, yeah. Pick up some cows, put them like in a barn to then, the aliens to take their milk or whatever, blah, blah, blah, but there's always something like that. No, you've got to get them in a barn to milk them to get enough milk to open the door, but then fucking aliens, if they steal your cows out of the fuck. You can put them into the air.
Yeah, whoop them. If you leave that cow to long it nicks it, you've got to go fucking back and get a cow again. And then from that level, you've got like the one where you're like a new, you've got like over and over and over and over. It's one of those, you know, it might have been classical, but it might have been classical.
You know, you know this song. You know, say they played that one, actually. You had an effort to know. Were you playing around with the little guy?
It was a hard control because you had to press the button to make him swim up, but you always go down. And every touch decided, like, that's like, blah, blah. Yeah, that takes you like, blah blah blah blah. Like, blah blah blah, where you, there's always all those bubbles.
Oh, yeah. You've got to blue yourself up as a balloon. Like a circusy type. Yeah.
Floating through it, you had the one where you're on that, like, top down, kind of, not top down, but like, angled down when you're on your little... Oh, but E-Honda jumping on your fucking shit. Yeah, yeah, the Hondas coming up, Snops not spinning. That's the boss in it, like a big snot on one.
Yeah, big snot was the end of it. That was a really... Yeah, you take the balloon all the way through a little... If that balloon blows up at any point...
And the puppy loves me. Yeah. Bob, bur Orndt. Band, band.
Like we're saving puppy lovers, where... We know a puppy, but you might not play that but you do too. Oh no man. So I grow his throwing puppies out of it in this splat.
When they... I do!!! And he's laughing about it, you've got to save them on March, March. How'd my kids get her in?
Have you got ackread pony? No, right? You've got to use Sleeping her be kits. You name her.
And that's sand level. I gave me spoke about this before, but that's sand level. What the way they fucking built that? It's like a level.
You have to shoot the sand to make the sand fall and it rises on the bottom. The physics of where we are is they went into that. That was all designed by them. You haven't seen that on any other game.
Just trying to build that alone was like a whole fucking piece of work and shit. And you couldn't shoot any more sand. If you needed to, you know what I mean? They kind of measured it out so the sand would fall in the right places so that it would work.
You've only got what you need. Even the newspaper level when you run around newspapers or whipping up. Oh yeah, with the fighting cabinets. And trying to trip the door open at the end.
That was the first place that I think I did that accident. Yeah, because the first one is straight away. You can't see it. I can't remember.
I don't think you know it's there. I think you told us about it before we talked about it again. But yeah, that was just a good game. It shouldn't have been on the mediocre versus back against Roadrunner.
Yeah, I mean, you can't compare that to it. That was a faux pas on our part really. Yeah, but we need to put something in there to win. It's fine.
Now is an easy win. If you go against Roadrunner, nice and easy win. You've got to be on to Roadrunner. That's a fucking part.
What song do we have? We're on next. I've got Roadrunner, I haven't run on a day. I've got to be on next.
I've got an absolute banner for you. We've got Mega Man 2, everyone make Mega Man 2. Beautiful, beautiful game. Beautiful, beautiful man.
Beautiful, beautiful game, beautiful man. I've got Queen Man for you. That one. What a man.
What a mega man. He is a mega man. I think from Mega Man 2, that is my favourite, like level chum, level chum, chum, chum. It's pretty good stuff.
It's pretty good stuff. It's just got all the right sounds, just right tempo. But just, you could dance like that. You could pump that out and you could...
Because you've got a Heat Man and Flash Man. Flash Man's quite good. Flash Man. There's something about Quick Man.
I just like it. It just touches him for console. That's what he is. That's what we can say, really.
I mean, the thing I like about the old Mega Man is... He's a lovely little cute man. He's not the animator boy that we know and love. He's a little furlough.
He's a little man. It can't really walk around very well. He struggles. But you get him through.
Was it on Mega Man 3 or Mega Man 4 when he learnt it? Slides? It's Mega Man 3. It's 3 or 4.
Yeah, I mean, that took him a while to learn that. Slow it. 3 or 4 games to learn to slide. Game-changer though.
That was a game-changer. Well, just slide it on the ground. No. Yeah.
He could slide pretty nicely as well. Yeah, go underneath it. If he was on the knee-something and you're in the 10 direction, he would. So he could just all go...
Oh, yeah. He could slide. He could slide forever on the knee for fucking a low wall. And the other thing I like about Mega Man 2 is, well, he's got his blocks.
Zoom. Zoom. But the sound effects. The blocks didn't have the sound effects.
The beat. Yeah, the wheel. It made it epic. That's so good.
Wow. Wow. It's so good. So good.
I've always got a spot for Mega Man. He's a Capcom boy. I'm a Capcom boy myself. No, I like Capcom.
I mean, you're a Capcom fan as well. Yeah, I'm a Capcom. Mega Man was without, I mean, without Mega Man where we're at Capcom B, they'd just be selling Street Fighter. But...
But where were they? I think there's some other shit behind there. But without Mega Man where I was saying, you ever played that Mega Man like Street Fighter game? I think I've only played it on like an arcade, but it's essentially like, it's called a Mega Man character.
It's like Street Fighter, but you pick up a Mega Man character and you fucking fight. Without... I think it's like half of us are a Capcom where you can make a Mega Man character. No, it's just purely, purely Mega Man characters.
No, I don't know. That's pretty good. I think... What was that many years ago?
These were places in London. It was like the Sega fucking... Yeah, Sega World. And then they changed their name to something else that everyone called it.
Yeah, yeah. I'm pretty sure I played it up in there like years ago. They had like, it was like, because it wasn't like, you didn't have fucking any of us on Capcom. It was like, you could be like, guts man or fucking cut man or heat man or ash shit.
Nice. Yeah, you just fighting these like, Mega Man characters. I tell a story that I probably told about like 100 episodes ago, You said it 20 episodes, whatever. I was playing the football game in there where you have to hit a ball or whatever, the balls are connected or whatever on stream or something.
Oh yeah. My fuck, because I was wearing a skate shoe and I don't fucking tell me she was up. My shoe was loose. It went into the fucking ceiling.
I lost my shoe up there. No, I completely don't know. No, but I was waiting for a fucking good 45 minutes. So I'm going to get it.
Yeah, it's a big... Can I have a... Can I have a... I know the square like, handled ceilings.
Yeah, yeah, yeah. It wasn't all square handled. It was like all like, like, pipes and shit. Like that would be like big pipes, little pipes, couple of blocks.
Right, then it just stopped there. Oh, fuck. Excuse me. Yeah, my shoe is...
You see up there without holding a ceiling. Yeah, my shoe's in there. Can I get that shoe back? That's going to take a bad hour and a half.
Yeah, by not walking around London without a fucking shoe. Yeah. I'm waiting for you to take it. Yeah, I'm going to play an air hockey while you get it.
Yeah, my choice. Joy air hockey. You can't hold it for it. So I'm just not going to let a puck go down.
Done. Done. That's a good story, mate. Yeah, right up there.
It was just, you couldn't, I couldn't physically get it. You'd have to have a ladder or something. Yeah, you were looking at it and thinking how you could get out there. No, no.
Like, what's... It almost had those flexible tubes up there as well. So you could find them in like, you know, everything's going down. You're going down.
You're going down. You're going to break it with nothing was like solid cast iron shit. It was all like, like, tin foil up there. That shit's falling apart.
Yeah. Don't think it's just falling apart, mate. What's the next song? That's talking about my life.
The next song is another, another next classic. Beautiful, beautiful, next classic. Talking about things being like Japanese and stuff. Yeah, because we talk about...
What's the next song? Everyone in Japanese games that say your world. Yeah. Well, it's Japanese Japanese.
The next song, Ninja Gaiden, it's just act for party. Pretty much. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I was a big...
I mean, I was a show you man as well when I ran a friend's house. Oh, yeah, yeah. But I played a lot in Ninja Gaiden. I know I had a...
Jumping to the wall and hugged the ball, making... Hug, jump, hug, jump. I mean, it was a classic, really annoying game. One of the games where...
Yeah. Kill that dog that's jumping around. Kill him. Move one step and he's back.
Fucking clapping. Oh, god. Oh, fuck. That's the most offensive thing ever.
He's like, I've just... He said everything knew you were there. I knew you were there. I knew you were there.
I just didn't need to know you were there again. Because what's the point? I've already... I've given you a nice...
You're dead. You're dead. You're down. Ninja stuff.
Ninja stuff. Ninja stuff. Ninja stuff. You're dead.
Jumped up on the lamppost. Up on the wall. Over the other side, there's another dog. Got ya.
And wait on it. He's waiting for you down the bottom. I mean, it was good game, but it was really fucking solid. It did actually mess you up out a little bit.
You couldn't just act like a normal platform with it. You would hug the wall. And then it would turn you into a lot when you jumped off the wall. It'd make you want a wall hug on the next wall.
So you had lost control of your character in a way because you were in that wall hugging mode. And all you wanted to do is jump up on top of a land or something. If you kept it, yeah. And also if you kept it just like the way you jump and it catches just like the top of the fucking block.
Then you're wall hugging that wall. Like you say, you actually just went to land on a platform. And then you're jumping back over there to... To try and jump in, yeah.
To wall hug again. To try and... Then land on that fucking jump. Yeah, it was...
And I said, I'm first-seting before about that game, the messenger. No. I can't remember if we talked about that one. It's kind of like a spiritual success, it's a ninja-dage, snow-beach.
Instead of you, again, you're like ninja. It's like an eight-bit fucking indie game. Like, really, it's on the pit for us. It's like a recent five years, where we're a bit old.
But essentially, go through it an eight-bit. And then you have to go through it an eight-bit. I did say it an empty 16-bit. And you should go through time going eight-bit 16-bit.
That's quite a good game. That's a cool concept. That's a pretty good game. Because essentially, like an indicator on a SNES and a NES.
And literally, you're going through time eight-bit, eight-bit, fucking 16-bit. It's a pretty good game. Check it out. If you haven't played it already.
No, no, I haven't played it. So I would like to check it. And I do like the concept of this. Yeah, I'm actually going to get cheap as well.
It's like quite old-knit. We're going to fucking PSN Network and I'll be looking up. Yeah, talk about the Xbox, mate. Talk about the Xbox, mate.
Yeah, it's a network. Okay, it's a network. Right, lovely tune for everyone. Well, I think that's...
I mean, it's me country Nout Rosie. And I think everyone's had... I've enjoyed the trip through fucking memory lane, the different games you've got. And I think everyone's getting a little bit tired now.
It's been a busy day. So to end on you, we've just got a lovely little tune for it. We've got just the ending of Yoshi's Island. Beautiful game.
Eggs, little baby marios. Jumping around, beating baby Bowser. Can't follow it. But just to ease you into bed nowadays, is a sweet, sweet lullaby for you.
Lovely, lovely Yoshi. Lovely. See you soon. Lovely, Yoshi.
Bye.
