139. Star Trek with Seán Ferrick

from Movies That Made Us Gay · host Scott Youngbauer & Peter Lozano

We talk ALL things Star Trek with ultimate Trek encyclopedia Seán Ferrick (TrekCulture) and we're boldly going… you know the rest.  Why are queer people so drawn to Star Trek? That's like asking why gays love horror - no one knows!  Well some people know.  Star Trek promised us a vision of the future free from poverty, sexism and prejudice (just don't look too deep into the origins of the Klingons) and us gays long for a place where we can just be ourselves right?  Star Trek also promises us a future filled with metallic non-stretch fabrics, pointy sideburns and catsuits for everyone!  This episode we take a deep dive into the Star Trek The Next Generation episode "The Outcast" from 1992 which takes a veiled look at homosexuality and gender when Riker (Jonathan Frakes) falls for a member of a non-binary alien species (played by a cis-female actor). We talk about what lured us into Star Trek, what we still love about the franchise all these years later and how we would make a living in the Star Trek universe.  Guinan has gotta need a bar back right? In the Trek universe the men are macho, the women are fabulous and the gays can't get enough of it. Live long, and prosper!

Our aim in focusing on such ”taboo” subject matter is to demystify what is unconscious, bring to light what has been known for centuries as ”the occult,” and empower the rapid transformation that is occurring on the Planet.
