14 – John Monich: Time Travel, Graham Hancock, Genghis Khan & Caves

Today I’m joined by one of my oldest friends, John Monich. In this episode, we discuss the concept of time, including the rigid structure of time in seconds & minutes, how your experience of time can be much less rigid, and whether time travel is possible. From there, we discuss John’s love for history and why the ideas of archaeology-focused investigative journalist Graham Hancock have resonated with so many people. Next, we discuss the leader Genghis Khan and the Anglocentric perception of history as taught by American institutions. Next, we discuss the fascinating geography of caves and whether an ancient civilization could have waited out a cataclysmic event at the beginning of the Younger Dryas period living in caves. We then discuss the ideas of luck and coincidence, and whether they can be reduced to a function of randomness or could instead represent manifestations of an intelligent plan. We end the conversation talking about animal sentience, and whether under different circumstances another species could have evolved to the level of intellectual advancement of humankind today.
