The expirience of comfort suddenly is gravely diminished. All the amenities and the finest of comfortable furniture are all there, but the pleasure of comfort in using them isn’t. This is actually the entire secret of Shabbat Candles, which was to bring that special pleasure and peace to all that has been prepared and put in place for the Shabbat meal and post meal experience. So too, it is in our religious lives. We can do the mitzvoit, study-Torah, and good-deed, however, we having installed the light, and thus, our spiritual experience of our religious observances is gravely diminished. The light that we must draw into our furnished beautiful home of religiosity comes from our soul. More specifically, we must produce Soul-Oil from which to bring the warmth and illumination of divinity and spirituality into all that we do and into all our lives. This lecture is based on a maamor the Rebbe delivered in 1965, on this Shabbat, in which the Rebbe explores the deeper mystical secrets to the producing of olive-oil for kindling the Menorah in the Tabernacle and the Holy Temple.
