#141 - Michael S. Harper

from The Paul Leslie Hour

Michael S. Harper was a poet and professor. He lived from March 18, 1938-May 7, 2016. He was Poet Laureate of Rhode Island from 1988 to 1993. Harper published ten books of his poetry and was considered one of the most prominent people in African-American literature. Many of his poems were influenced heavily by jazz music. After reading and being touched by a couple of his poems, I wrote Harper a letter and he agreed to be interviewed by telephone. This archival interview with Michael S. Harper is being presented as a historical recording for your mental stimulation and listening pleasure. We also would like to dedicate this episode of the podcast to Mr. Landon Maurice Lewis who has provided inspiration and optimism to many. Don't touch that dial, the Michael S. Harper interview is right here on The Paul Leslie Hour. Support The Paul Leslie Hour by contributing to their tip jar: https://tips.pinecast.com/jar/the-paul-leslie-hour
