142. Welcome Home Roxy Carmichael with special guest Michael Morgan

from Movies That Made Us Gay · host Scott Youngbauer & Peter Lozano

"That was a thirty-two dollar sweater, missy, and you dyed it black, didn't you?" We watched Welcome Home Roxy Carmichael (1990) with the always outrageous Michael Morgan and I could use an Almond Roca. Gen-X Queen Winona Ryder is at it again, this time playing strange and unusual all-black-wearing loner Dinkey Bossetti.  Dinky is obsessed with the cute boy in her class, feeding stray animals and the town legend, the mysterious Roxy Carmichael. We never picked up on the Sapphic under (and over) tones in this movie until this watching, but man - this movie is gay!  From the Melissa Etheridge soundtrack, the over-sexed townies waking up to post coital brunch, and don't get us started on the guidance counselor. Are the fleeting images of Roxy in her L.A. manse all in Dinky's head?  And if they are - why is she always naked?! And most importantly, we answer the age old question - is Jeff Daniels hot?  Spoiler alert - the answer is yes.
