This chapter takes us to the 8th century BCE. The Assyrian Empire was expanding, and three Israelite tribes—Reuben, Gad, and half of Manasseh—lived east of the Jordan River in what's now Jordan. By the time someone wrote this down, probably around 400 BCE after the Babylonian exile, these tribes had disappeared.
