1440-ANGPTL2 Regulation of Macrophage Mitophag&Pyroptosis
from Paper Talk
This scientific study investigates the protective role of the protein ANGPTL2 in managing rheumatoid arthritis (RA) by regulating immune cell behavior. The researchers discovered that a deficiency in ANGPTL2 accelerates joint destruction and inflammation by allowing macrophages to undergo pyroptosis, a form of inflammatory cell death. Mechanistically, ANGPTL2 maintains cellular health by interacting with IGFBP5 to promote mitophagy, the process of clearing damaged mitochondria that would otherwise trigger inflammation. The study highlights that restoring ANGPTL2 levels through gene therapy or recombinant proteins effectively reduces bone erosion and swelling in animal models. Ultimately, these findings identify the ANGPTL2-IGFBP5-mitophagy axis as a promising new therapeutic target for treating autoimmune joint diseases.References:Liu Y, Yang Q, Huang Z, et al.
