They also discuss the best ways to interact with refugees that reinforce their human dignity. Key Points 10,000 children have gone missing from Syrian refugee camps. Refugee camps are so miserable that people are willing to take huge risks for potential work abroad, and many of these workers become trafficking victims. Syrian Refugee camps will be open for decades. Communicating human dignity to people in refugee camps is key and just holding people’s hands can achieve that. A powerful way to impact human trafficking is to come back from a trip with a first-hand story that communicates the problem as a personal issue, not a public health crisis. The closer somebody is to the person telling the story, the more impact it will have. Sometimes what people need most is just for someone to listen to them. Instead of reinventing the wheel, look for places where work is already being done and partner with existing organizations. Relationship is always more important than resources.
