Good morning, good afternoon, good evening. You're listening to the AllTalk podcast. I know what you've done now. Welcome to the future, hosted by Peter Rowners.
Joining me tonight is a little bit of stuff. In the driving scene, we have a live drive. We won't get you to start the engine yet. So it's running late.
It's running late. And we've got to listen up tonight. Aaron's joined us, can I Aaron? For a live drive.
Can we drive Aaron's car? I'm going to say that. Aaron's got a nicer car. No, no, no, no, no, it's a different car.
Let's just say, well, the last time we had a visit on a live drive, they went home with the headache. Because we had the i40 and you were driving it like, you're a man. This thing doesn't have as much grunches as I have. It doesn't.
We're inside a Tesla Model Y. And how's already... It's the budget version. Yeah, so it's the standard range.
It's pretty adequate. We'll talk about it in a minute. But I've had it for a couple of days. How I had it today.
And I've just got in the passenger seat. And how has already given it his own personal touches on the screen. Yeah. It's in Kerber-Gree.
It's in Kerber-Gree. It's in H.E.G. whatever that's called. Spitfire-Gree.
Spitfire-Gree. Oh no. Someone brought up some flame one day. Oh no.
That's colour for the car. What was the 70s green colour? The Taranas and that. There we go.
Felt like a flat. Seriously. Are you joining us? Yeah, it's fine.
Yeah, we've just had this... We're in Bankstown, so you should really have a good week. We found a Tesla fanboy. We found a Tesla fanboy.
You coming? Come with us. He's gone. What'd you do that?
He could have asked for money. He's a boy out. That's exactly what my thought was. He could have asked for money.
Alright, so... The age is already a battery pack is all chewed up. How do we... How does the...
No, no. How do you alter the amount of the regenerative brake? I was happy with the amount that I was talking about. It was just a little bit too much for me.
I didn't know it. So basically what you've got is... You've got a massive iPad in a horizontal position in the middle of Dashboard. There's no head up display.
We'll talk about that in a moment. There's no traditional Dashboard. It's just a flat panel. And you've got a screen right in the middle that my wife hated and I loved.
So basically... Stopping mode... Roll. So yeah, hold.
Hold is a bit... Yeah. So roll when pedals are... No, no, no, that's stopping mode.
So when you have the lights. Hold means it stops. You have to creep. They'll move forward as you have the lights.
Slowly move when pedals are released. Yeah. And hold. Maximizes range by extending regenerative braking to lowest speed.
No, try roll. There you go. All right. So...
It's a very practical car to put into it and just throw that ring about at your door. Yeah. It sits up high. I got more headroom.
I took a photo earlier today. There was a little three... You can see when it's parked. When you come to this car in real life, it's fucking big.
Yeah. And when you see it, it photos... It looks like a model for anything. What's the big deal?
No, it's actually big. Because you look at it when... Say for example, a Mazda... The Mazda 3 and Mazda CX-3, CX-3, whatever it is.
Right? They're on the same platform. They're pretty much the same inside. Yeah.
Right? This actually feels bigger than the 3. This is a size up on the 3. That's taller.
You know, it's like a baby X. Yeah. It's upright. Lots of headroom.
Lots of shoulder room. It's bigger than the E. It's pretty tall. There's no like a headroom in this thing.
Yeah. Everybody's fine. The legs a little bit. Yeah, but I've got two more rooms to go forward.
Yeah. Seats are comfortable. The hatch is at waist high. So it's a very tall car.
I've got a little bit of charge at the Tesla charging place. And there was a 3 next to it. And it looked fucking tight compared to the Y. So basically, you've got the touch pad.
So how was that? It's about 3. Two thirds of the screen is your map. Is that a Google-type base?
Yeah, it's sort of your own. It's got all the like, it's funny. My wife and I were laughing with me. So now we're driving.
Yeah. So basically, my wife and I were driving last night and just going through suburbia. And you see people who just did their businesses at their houses. And you've got some weird business names at places where there's no business.
So you've got a lot of people who are driving here. So basically, my wife and I were driving last night. So you've got a lot of businesses at their houses. And you've got some weird business names at places where there's no businesses.
There was a message place. Was it a message or massage? I think it was a massage. It's my wife was a message place.
It must be like an office never been there before. So hopefully, there's no feature on the wheel. Where it starts showing up. You have been here before.
No, Tesla knows what you've been. Tesla knows everything. So if you're going to lie to your wife, make sure your ring Tesla first and say, I bought away guys. Help.
I wrote the car. That's a cool feature. So it's a side camera. It's got a camera image of that particular side mirror.
The problem I don't like, but apparently you can configure it and don't ask me how to do it now, is that the camera is in the middle right, bottom right corner. So if you put your left clicker on, you can think of the left side of the screen, but it's not. It's in the same side of the screen. So you can configure it to move that camera around because it's a little bit confusing.
The next sort of third of the screen is the, like that selfless driving autopilot type mode where it shows your car in your desired car, not the right bloody car. And it shows in the lane, it shows all the cars around it. So it's been half the time to look at that bloody screen. It's a bit distracting.
And then the top right corner is your speedo in Australia because we're right hand drive. And it's easy to go ahead and say, but I know what you found out, but I found that you're driving faster than when you actually think. Yeah. Well, with the electric cars, that's a common problem.
So you don't get that, with a normal petrol car, or whatever it is, you don't, you don't, you don't look at a Russian engine. You don't get that connection between the driver. You know, if you're going fast. Yeah, you know, it's mechanical.
With this, you don't. And what I don't like is there's no head up display. And you're always sort of like glancing to the left. So whereas with a normal car, at least the front of you, the left.
So it's a common gripe with this car because the model S had a dash in front. I'm not sure if the X had a dash in front. Never been to the model S. I look, yeah, you see fine stuff thinking you're flying, but you look down, you're doing 65.
So the perception of speed in this is a lot bigger than what you're really doing. Which is a good thing. It's like the next one. You think you're flying, it's the fastest car you're going to slow in.
So, first, how many is the price today? But it's not as roll, right? Yeah, so it's a lot easier. So it's just a lot longer.
Well, yeah. But it takes a lot longer to stop. Yeah, I like the strong region where you lift your one foot off. And I've got used to it.
I've got only 835 today to do without someone's ass. Because I look at it, so I think, fuck, it's not slowing down. So you tend to get used to that one pedal driving. Everybody, any thoughts at the back?
Is that roll mode? Does that feel like a talk-me-me-tour? No, no, roll mode is basically, so this is in roll mode now. So I take it off and it's basically bright itself.
Right, it's generating. So there's a screen next to the speed of the line. It's the accelerator, it goes white and black during the day. And when you let go, it goes green, that's the region.
So now, I haven't used the brakes. But it's got a roll. Yeah. So we have to go into pedals and roll back like a manual.
Yeah, but if you put a hold, I don't need to do it. So basically hold the car like, you know the Merc style when you hit the brake at the light. Now we've got to put it in the car and then put it back into the car. So now if you let go of the brake.
So now if you let go of the brake. Hold, it's in the hole. It's a little simple that's sort of doing the whole mode. And what it'll do now is, it's just going to hold that until I go back on the throttle.
But it'll do the same when we break again. Like once we come to a stop and I don't have to use the brakes at all. Once it'll hold it. So I'm getting used to it.
It's not that I didn't like it. Yeah, it's got a motorbike. It's got a big bag on it. Is it taking a body somewhere?
Maybe he's just got dirt. He's just doing some gardening. So it's adequate power for the standard. So there's obviously the standards about 75,000 on road with the rebates, depending on which state you're in, which I find is very competitive for what you get with and just order the performance model one.
It's about 110 on road. And I was questioning the last couple of days, do you need it? Like this thing is very quick. It's probably a six to seven second car, 100, which is pretty quick for a family car.
You know, I don't think you need any faster. Like at no stage that I get out of this hat with a headache or have that roller coaster sensation. It's just right. You get like, I'm touched on the brakes at all, but if you get used to it after a while, I'll get thrown on and off.
It's a rear wheel drive. So it's a single motor one. And I found that, I mean, I was driving it comparing it to the other electric cars. We've been doing a fair for you now.
And the EQA, which we did like the Mercedes, that was a front wheel drive. And that would lose traction. And with this one, this car is pretty planted. It's pretty stiff, but not, it's not being W stiff.
Being W is the king of breaking it back. I'll find this, what do you reckon? Aaron drives it into. So if he's going to compare the stiffness in the suspension, this is not being W stiff.
It's not even car stiff, but it definitely has a feeling it kind of does feel bouncy. Yeah. So if you're going to use it as a, and there's no adjustable suspension. Yes, one mode.
It's one mode. So that's an easy fix, but I mean, that just adds complexity. Steering, you can go sport comfort in this car. Okay.
So it goes, oh, yeah, I've tried to know that. So it's in the standard mode. Now you can make it a bit more lazy by going to comfort. I found the steering, obviously I had it in the standard mode and it was very good.
I was happy. And it's a very plain steering wheel. You've got the Tesla T in the middle and just two roller buttons and I decided that's the No, the actual, yeah, like 75 grand, 100 grand, whatever it is. This steering wheel is acceptable.
You don't like it? No. No. Well, material or what?
Yeah, it's just not, this is just a, yeah. I see. You've got a better steering wheel than a GT line in a case. You know what I like about this?
It's almost like, for me, it's going back to basics. Yeah, it's too basic. But for you, and everything's on the screen and going back to basics, if you learn the screen, it's pretty easy to navigate and play with. But I think it is still a bit distracting where, and my wife brought up a comment that she's basically saying that if that screen goes, you're fucked.
So I was looking, I'm trying to see what these buttons, that yeah, music on off, but, okay, but it's, yeah, what gets? Okay, just twist the voice activation. Give it up. I can't do anything with these buttons.
Yeah. I can't do anything with them. Like, is this in got cruise control? Yeah, you got to hit the D down.
Yeah, okay. The cruise function is complicated. So you've got the key box, like a Mercedes style on the right stalk, is that key box? Yeah.
But it hasn't got separate. Well, Mercedes has got buttons on the steering wheel for the cruise. The old Mercedes hat, the stalk. This has got, you push down and drive, I think if you push twice, you start the, uh, all that part.
Yeah, I need muck around with that. We've been doing city driving mainly. I haven't really gone out in the country to fuck around with that. So, um, that sort of makes it complicated for, and then I did not turn it off.
So I see the brake and it wasn't so steering. I'm trying to get time. Like, you find out, I mean, when you have a picture time, you go through it. Fuck.
And the Tesla people were nice. They just sort of, so you familiar with turns? I said, yeah, they just gave us the car. It seems like they oversimplifying the car.
Okay. And relying on this big center, dash. Right? They made it complicated as well.
Does it make sense? Yeah. I think when the car's bouncing onto it, sometimes we're trying to touch a button. Yeah, I'm trying to, either.
I'm trying to, either. Like, if you want to move it, change the aircon. Right? Like, where's my aircon?
Yeah, it's, I'm going to do it when I'm stopped. You're going to eat the 20 butt and you're going to eat the temperature. Yeah. It comes with me, Daddy.
But I know you're saying how it's, I'm sure tech savvy, if my dad got in this, or my mum would be bringing up using me, they wouldn't know to use this. You know, my heart sank today when I picked this car up. Why? Okay, my heart sank.
Because my kids got out of the car. They said, come on boys, we're going to get this car. And they walked out. Whoa, a Tesla!
It's like, get the fuck out of here. Yeah. Yeah, but the Tesla, they were really wrapped. Because they're seeing Tesla on, they watch, uh, YouTube videos with all these gamers and staff, and the guys got Teslas.
Yeah, okay. So now for them is, me and you and kids, we wanted, uh, Porsche or Ferrari or Lambo on the wall. Now I'm thinking, how did the girl that was on the Lambo on the wall? Oh, that was just the bike truck.
I was just, I don't know who husband's car is. I think that's the girl. I was the guy. I don't think she has the feet.
But I think the guy that had the car had a wife. And that is different than it. And then published it all over the world. Yeah, so, the Tesla, as I said, it only goes a little card.
So there's no key. So how's it going to bring up a gripe now? Yeah, it is. Yeah, done like it.
It's not, it's not. So when you have a key fob in your pocket and you approach most modern cars, the car knows you're there with comfort access, whatever the phone call. So you touch the door handle or grab the handle of the car, just unlocks. And you get the car, you hit the button drive.
Okay. So how about the footpath before we set up the recording, you had an argument and how's it like, I can't open the car with the car on the passenger side. I have to walk around and tap it on the driver's sort of big, like with the sensor is to unlock the car, which is fair enough. But I just stood there next to him on the footpath, opened my app on my phone and I locked it for him.
What happens if you didn't have your phone or did you not have your phone? It could be. When do you walk around with that phone? It's in your pocket, you've got stuff in your hands.
Okay. That's what comfort access is. Right? Stuff in your hands.
You watch it. You watch the shops. Your family man. You've got the kids school bags or whatever.
You just want to walk up to the car and open it. You can't open the trunk on this thing, the boot. Okay. You can't open it without unlocking the car.
Well, if it's raining and I'm running to the car. You can press the app and it opens up. It's raining. I've got kids bags.
I'm trying to get them in the car. I don't want to be unlocking it with my phone. I want to walk up to the car and unlock it. That's comfort access.
You get it in the car. Yeah. You get it in the car. Yeah.
Okay. I can hear your argument, but I think having other phones is pretty good. No, no. It is.
But what do I need on my phone? Like, why can't I just walk up to the car and touch it? It's like, is it a step forward or a step back? It's not too back, but you've given me this car that obviously has a chip in it.
So, once you've built that price, like I said, this is $75,000. And for that money, you're getting a lot of cars, a good car. But this is $75,000. It's got a electric car.
But it's got a little bit of a dependence on this, a leaf. Yeah, but they've got all these other great tech on it. Right? And they've had a long time.
They've been around just from yesterday. They've had enough time. And if they're going to plant this car in a market, we drive the EQA, which was a little bit smaller than this. Yeah.
What's too hard? The EQB coming out. That will compare to this. That will compare to this.
Not as wide, no. But the EQB will be $9,000 like I'm putting it out. If the EQA was $82 for the base. Yeah, but people might know why it's so easy.
The build quality. What did we pick up on without our signals? Yeah, okay. So, another little design theme with this is it's got like the seatbelt is so easy to grab and put in.
But it's got, oh, can I talk about this car's specific compulsive? Anyway, see, it's already, this car's got a $500 case on it's, and the base, the inside of the beat pill, I was all scratched because the bottom of the seatbelt is got like a big heavy metal tab thing. And it's already scratched the beat pillow. If you're a facetidious, like I am, that would crack me.
I've noticed it already. My own is got a hundred and seventy thousand cases. It doesn't have scratches like that on anything. Anything on the inside, on the trip.
So, again, that's probably something that I know. It's just, it's got this, you know, that's got an extra ankyronic kind of thing. I don't know, it will make a taste of photos and put it up and see what people think. Alright, um, alright, it's actually compulsive.
My kids put their school bag on the back seat and... Left the mark. No, the car was screaming. It's tits off.
It's a mouth seatbelt. Where if you put another car, especially in the back seat, the little light will come on and you flick it off and everyone's pretty chilled about it. We need one of these. You see, it's a little ways.
That's another thing. There you go. Nice cars. Can we get one from Hyundai?
Hyundai, if you're listening to us, can we have an i30 end line? That's a cool car. That's a cool car. That's next to us.
So, that was another little grub for me and I'll raise it as well. Does this come with ways? It's got its, the navigation of this is pretty brilliant and it's designed. So, if you click, I'm up there and I hope that there's a little bit of Brisbane because I typed in Brisbane to see how it would go to Brisbane and it directly charged points along the way.
So, this nav is designed for this car and it also says, it's pretty good. It'll pick up and that basically, the nav tells you how much battery you've got left when you get there at your destination. I'm using my tent. I'm going to use it.
Yeah, so now in testing grounds in Mexico and basically how it's got up to 95 effortlessly without zemnot vomiting but it's moving. Well, that's our fault. And that got to 90 and now you lift off and you're back at 60 pretty quickly. And we're on the paved section.
It's not as interesting. We were covering last time and the paved section, which can't put him in. What do we have last week? We came through here and it was just vibrating and...
It's a big rattling. It's a big rattling. I can't remember. Oh, God.
But there's a big rattling. It's a bit rattling. It's a bit of a bit of a stuff. The only, because there's no engine noise, there's a little latch you can hear it rattle at the back but normally we're recording now but normally we're at music and you can't hear it.
And music and engine sound does disguise any rattling any car. I was about to say, this is like my first time in the electric car. I'll say with the radio on it, it'll be tilted. Yeah, yeah, you can't hear it.
It's almost like a little studio now where we're having a chat. And you can hear all the little squish but it hasn't. It's not that rally where we are on a paved road. So, I like it mate.
I'm not a Tisel fanboy, don't get me wrong. I'm not scared to point out what's wrong with the car. But I thought I'd hate the... What do you go back down this way?
It's a fucking rattle. Just tricking the rattle. Okay, is that what's your test? I was going to put the radio on.
Oh, fuck you. We played karaoke earlier. And this is the karaoke. I haven't got enough money to pay for this song.
Can you switch on, please? Switch it off. The song you made up earlier. Switch on.
Just turn it down off. Why? Because you got to pay money to use other people's songs. And that band is not like a small band.
It's not a Greek folk band from my dad's local village. He comes to the email. Your lawyers to read that letter. I want my lawyer.
What do we have? E63, you're clean. That's what we tried for last time. We covered here.
I was just doing a launch. Is that a good... Yeah, no, it's not a good. It's not a performance.
This is not a performance. This is a great car. This is great for every day. You're still in the traffic light, Grand Prix.
It's not a turn away, Pete. What? If no one else knows you're in a race. Yeah.
Yeah. You also notice on the screen your brake lights come on. And if you put your blinker on, your car on the screen will flash. It's a blinker.
You can see it. It's not doing it. Oh, it is. It's really fine.
Yeah, you can see it. It has it. No, I'm just looking at it's not just flashing. Oh, yeah, yeah.
So, see, you give me all this stuff. But I need to use my phone or tap the beat pillar to get in the car. I don't need that. But now it's flashing.
Oh, no, and we're not going to go through the fart noise. Everyone knows the fart noise and all that. There's a fart noise. Is that a clear frame on the rear view mirror?
Yeah, it's got the little thing. Yeah. But there's not much revusability. I don't think you know about the fart noise.
No. You want to put the fart noise down. Are you serious? What fart noise is?
You can do like fart noises and bullshit like that. What? Oh, you got to go to the fun section. Toy box?
Toy box. Where you change the colors. You do a live show if you line up or you're on your, or you want to make out. Like this.
If I. Wait, wait, wait. Wait, wait. Wait, wait.
Wait, wait. You're the fire? Yeah. I got to record this.
So now we've put some, we have a room and so on. We're parking. We're parking. We're parking.
We've switched the, there's a fireplace on in the car. You can either crackling. Right. Can you feel the heat?
Yeah, because the seats are warming up. Can you feel the heat? I feel like I'm taking the clothes off. You're warming up the seat.
Is this the biggest aphrodisiac? Or like is this making you want to take your clothes off now? I know I'm going to have to turn the lights off out and think of someone else. But seriously, how good is this?
Aaron, what do you think? Cozy? I'm impressed. Don't you wish you had this when you were in your 20s.
It's warming up. It's warming up. It's not a fire. Yeah, it's got the heater on.
Yeah, I know. Duh for it. So that's pretty funny. Can you now, can we now go back to like.
Get the fireplaces off. Again, I know the guys from Cyprus. The Tesla of Fireplace. The seats are heating up.
The air is heating up. The guys from Cyprus. Cut. I can't even find the other cypress.
Just. Keep my place. Get it. It's getting fucking very warm.
Okay. So let's show. I see a line up. You're tizzlers.
Where's the window? It's hot in here. It's hot from the fire. That's one way of getting a ghost.
Let's get to some snowy area now. How funny was that? I just. You can change your car.
It's all. I don't know. Rainbow road. We can go to memory.
Yeah, see your road on the screen. We'll go to memory. Yeah. So.
I'm going to go to memory. I'm going to go to memory. I'm going to go to memory. I'm going to go to memory.
I'm going to go to memory. I'm going to go to memory. We'll go to memory. Let's go pick up memory 7.
I put the fireplace on. I put the fireplace on with Rainbow road. So. Yeah.
That's. It's got some. I think your nav becomes the surface of Mars. Channel your inner Picasso.
What's the light? So a lot of this shit emissions. Yeah. Fire on demand.
Oh there you go. Yeah. Fire on CERN single. Right.
Really? Really? How? Tenses have that for 10 years.
And now you're founded. Yeah. I should take the kids with it every time I took it. That I fired it all the way to school.
I 2018 you don't want to ask me back to my friend. And he'd be gonna release it. Absolutely not. That's the best part.
Stop it. Don't get into me. I didn't want it to happen here. I did not expect it to happen.
Yeah. It's been time. But I got him in jail. That's the best product in the attendance.
Hey can you drop in and Sod. What would you do to that? avarnit with that person at the bottom that time. No, you can just say to people to sign and say, by writing this card you'll acknowledge that you've been recorded, right?
Okay. And then put... Oh, so you took the fire. Tic Tocs with that.
So you took the... So you're the Uber, Tesla, Tik Tok. You're under something, Hal. You're under something.
Classic. We can talk about what the phones go. It's got a pretty good... It's got back to normal transmission.
So it's got two sections for your phones. You're going to Android, I'm an Apple. They're both auto charge. It's like two, almost what, 60 degree, upright sort of at the end of the console with the traditional gearbox level would be your phones are sitting upright so you can see your phones without touching them as well.
I've got an idea. Yeah. Aaron, do you want to drive? I've got a question.
My arm just went in and went into the back. Is that a puzzle tray? No. No, no, no.
I've got a lot of noise in that puzzle tray. I didn't notice that. Yeah, no puzzle tray. I noticed that today when I was loading stuff in as well.
See how much rather. That's why we get passengers to tell us the stuff. You've left the fire on, you know that. You have to put it in the lead to change lanes.
All right, we'll turn it off. Okay. Oh, you can actually do random it all the same on all the different parts. I guess random is the best.
Yeah. So, you know, we're going to go back to the car mode. We're going to get rid of this stuff. Aaron, you want to drive?
All right. We're going to leave. These are first. We're going to leave.
Listen, there's the drive cars. Okay. I'll just walk this car by the way. You push the button.
So how's it got the handles? You push the button. It's at the door open. It's Corvette style.
So you can't get in and have a key, but you can push the button to get out. So they're fleshing by myself now because we're doing a driver change. This is the first, but then you drive a change. We've got the car can drive by itself.
So you got used to the handle handle. So the door handle is a flush bit of metal where you hit one bit. That's not a clutch. It's a flappy carpet.
Yeah. The flappy carpet. Yeah. So basically the floor mats, the whether driver's foot rest is the left hand side, they get this long piece of carpet that goes up there.
It's molded in, but it's poorly attached. It's very, very poor for Velcro. So whatever you move your foot, well, it's got Velcro built into it. It's poor.
So it always flops around. So you get your foot tangled up in it. How do you do your mirrors? You can't.
What do you mean you can't? I don't know. Any of your mirrors? Probably you've got to do off the screen.
It's like hit the car. And then, that's just up and down. There you go. So it's just too fucking complicated.
It's probably got no memory either. It does. It's restore, save and restore. So there's you there.
It's using the buttons. The buttons are good for something. Yeah, there you go. Great.
We haven't told you there. We haven't been able to listen to working. So we're adjusting the mirrors. You find that there's, it doesn't, it makes noises, does everything for you.
Yeah, go on. All right. So foot. Right in.
So, yeah, on once is, no, that's reverse. So I got to tap the key again because, you know, we're in the car and, you know, it doesn't know that we're in the car because we'll start the car again. Okay. So you don't do it.
