Peter und Paul, Petrus und Paulus – die Namen klingen nicht nur ähnlich, sie teilen sich auch einen Feiertag, diverse Kirchen in der ganzen Welt und mindestens einen deutschen Fernsehfilm. Und dann haben beide natürlich einige Briefe geschrieben. Da kann man schon mal durcheinander kommen. Kurz gesagt: Petrus ist der Apostel, den Jesus dazu berufen hat, die junge Christengemeinde zu führen. Von ihm sind zwei Briefe im Neuen Testament überliefert. Paulus ist der Apostel, der junge christliche Gemeinden gegründet hat. Er hat viele uns heute noch bekannte Briefe geschrieben. Der katholische Theologe Thomas Söding beschäftigt sich in diesem Vortrag mit dem ersten Petrusbrief. Er beschreibt, was diesen Brief von den Schriften des Paulus unterscheidet, er erklärt die politischen, kulturellen und historischen Umstände, in denen der Brief geschrieben wurde und warum es womöglich gar nicht Petrus war, der den Brief verfasst hat. Und letztendlich zeigt Söding, warum dieser Brief damals wie heute an alle Christen gerichtet ist. Denn was die ersten Gläubigen vor zwei Jahrtausenden durchmachten, das kennen auch die meisten Gläubigen des 21. Jahrhunderts.
