Er hatte ihnen von dem Sohn Gottes erzählt, der ein Reich Gottes auf Erden verkündet hat, der von Menschen getötet und doch wieder auferstanden ist, der nach seinem Tod Menschen erschienen ist. Und sie haben die frohe Botschaft geglaubt, sie beten zu Gott, verehren den Messias, werden verspottet, verachtet und verfolgt. Und nun? Wo ist das Reich Gottes? Was hat sich verändert, seitdem sie die frohe Botschaft angenommen haben? Diese Fragen haben sich offenbar schon die ersten Gläubigen gestellt. Und sie dürften auch in den zwei Jahrtausenden bis heute immer wieder Christen beschäftigt haben. Eigentlich verständlich, oder? Doch der Verfasser des 2. Petrusbriefs hat scharfe Worte für die Zweifler, die Spötter und jene, die einfache – und falsche – Antworten auf schwere Fragen anbieten. Thomas Söding, katholischer Theologe und Seniorprofessor für neutestamentliche Exegese, seziert auch den zweiten Petrusbrief, erklärt den möglichen Autor, die Adressaten und die Zeit, in der der Brief verfasst wurde. Und er beschreibt den Trost und die Ermutigung, die dieser Brief trotz aller Schimpftirade den Menschen damals ins Leben sprach – und auch uns heute noch.
