In this episode, Martha opens up about her personal experience with disordered eating and how it affected her life in multiple ways. Martha explains her journey from musical theatre into the fitness realm. She explains the feelings she had, how she saw herself and how she reached out for help to start her recovery process. Hannah asks Martha a range of questions around how her family and friends reached out to her to discuss her weight loss and for Martha’s advice for anyone who has a friend or family member struggling with an eating disorder, and what might be a caring way to approach it. Martha details how therapy helped her work on the feelings of control internally that contributed to her weight loss, and how she worked with professional Renee McGregor to start her recovery process. Martha highlights that it is not a linear journey to recovery and that taking whatever small steps you can, is a good place to start. This episode highlights how eating disorders can be highly complex. It was an open, honest and highly informative discussion.
