15. From Farm to Table: Ultra-Running into Business with Sarah Stanley

from Into The Wild

Hey you wild women! Today I am joined by Sarah Stanley. I connected with Sarah through her impressive marathon and ultra-running background. Sarah used the knowledge she learned from farming, as a sponsored ultra-endurance athlete and health, wellness, and nutrition expert.  Sarah runs the bakery 'Hannah Cakes', using her childhood growing up on an organic farm to make delicious treats that are healthy and nourishing too! The products she creates are top 9 allergen-free (no gluten, wheat, soy, dairy, eggs, tree nuts, peanuts, corn, or shellfish). She has run countless marathons and is the author of Live Freely: Six Weeks to Detox Your Mind, Body, Spirit, Money, Home and Life. Not only does she participate in marathons and run her bakery, she also runs her life. Sarah has an almost 2-year-old boy at home, and she involves him in every part of her day. He helps her as she bakes while she teaches him valuable life skills to help him as he grows up. In This Episode, You Will Learn About: How Sarah turned the physicality she learned on the farm into a love of ultra-running Her learning curve when setting up her business Believing in doing what you can with what you have - not everyone has unlimited resources and you should turn what you do have into an advantage How not worrying about perfection and having a 'just do it' attitude leads to creativity Her biggest mistake: Trying to turn a hobby into a job despite the lack of generated income The importance of having flexibility in your mindset Having the courage to admit what does and does not work Leveraging social media to create deeper client connections Avoiding the trappings of platforms like Instagram - success isn't always visual Learning the story behind the name 'Hannah Cakes' and her thoughts on rebranding How the work ethic from her youth translates to her business What kind of substitutes does she use for ingredients? You can bake without eggs!
