15. How to Stop Abandoning Yourself & Pleasing Others

from Courageously Expressed | Post-Traumatic Purpose Reclamation · host Chelsea Bartell-Smith

Imagine this, your eyes flutter open and you notice the sunlight peeking through your window. Immediately you feel that your heart is light, weightless. There’s this freedom in your chest that feels warm & gooey. As you stretch and wake your body up you realize there’s no tension or pain. Your body feels like butter. You climb out of bed and feel the coldness of the carpet beneath your feet. You really feel present for each and every little braid of carpet tickling your feet and you smile. You go to your closet, pick out your clothes and notice that you’re dressing more vibrantly. With more color, with more consideration, with more confidence. You go to your kitchen and prepare yourself some coffee and breakfast. For a moment you stop as you take a deep breath and realize you’re loving and nurturing yourself in a way you’ve always wanted. You think about all the good choices you’ve made for yourself, your body, and your health recently. How you set boundaries with your mom, how much time you’ve spent outside, how much laughter you’ve experienced in the last week. And it hits you. “This is the moment. This is that place where I’ve been aching to get to. Everything isn’t perfect but I’m so at peace, I’m so calm, I’m so much lighter. This is it.” Your eyes well up with big fat tears of joy. You’re so thankful that you chose to heal yourself. That you chose to become your REAL self no matter how hard it was. That you believed in yourself no matter the odds, and the most miraculous part of it all? It was so much easier than you ever imagined.
