15. Marika Hamahata Clymer: The Ecology of Healing

What does it mean to be a healer within a capitalist, colonial framework? How do we honor the complexity of our healing practice as complex humans? My guest in conversation today is my wise Reiki teacher, Marika Hamahata Clymer. Our conversation revolved around the idea of what it means to be a healer for ourselves and for our communities, how reigniting our relationship with the land is in itself an embodiment practice, and what it means to create a learning community while divesting from the model of the ‘guru.’ Marika shared how her journey as a farmer led her to create her year-long Reiki program, Foundations of Energetic Ecology, how to reimagine our bodies through ecological frameworks, and what it means to teach Reiki from an animist, Japanese perspective. Here’s Marika’s bio: Marika Hamahata Clymer (she/her)  is a healer, teacher, birth attendant, and mother who inhabits Occupied Duwamish Territory - Seattle, WA.
